Where: Cafe in Diagon
When: Sunday afternoon
Rating: Low? Until Fleur finds out who Renée is, I'm sure

The last twenty four hours had certainly been... something. Renée wasn't quite sure she had other words for it. For the last three years, she had admired the political structure of Magical Britain. How Rabastan Lestrange and Lucius Malfoy had been able to nearly wipe out unemployment, how they had passed laws and regulations to ensure that all individuals regardless of status, gender, or blood had equal opportunities, and how violent crime had dropped to nearly unforeseen numbers. In that regard, it was no surprise that the French government, as well as multiple others, had a deep respect for what was happening here. But now, now Renée was not so sure. While she had her qualms about the rebellion, getting to know John's niece, as well as watching the whole story unfold before her very eyes changed things. And while she still felt that the government hadn't done anything wrong up until now, the recent decree by Lucius Malfoy had her head spinning.
Yes, in certain instances, sentencing without trial could be appropriate. She would admit to that. But hearing John's niece speak about many of those on Malfoy's immediate death list changed things for her. They were still young, and not all of them could possibly have blood on their hands. Why was it necessary to immediately kill or imprison for life when there were other, more civil methods? Interrogation under veritaserum for one. They could not lie, and the full extent of their crimes could be determined. There was also those skilled with legilimens who could uncover the truth from within their minds, if their words failed. Safeguards would not work against such powerful mind magic, and legilimens was fully aware several talented witches and wizards could be found within the Ministry to provide assistance.
But for the moment, she kept her mouth shut and her head down. It was all she could do for the time being. She had a position where she was able to do good, if things went south, and was intelligent enough not to put that in jeopardy. But even more important, she would not put John in danger either by doing something silly.
After waking up to her darling fiance that morning, she was sure to leave him satisfied for the day before heading for a shower. She wanted to do a bit of shopping, and knew he wouldn't mind a bit of time to himself. She was not exactly the suffocating type, even if deep down, she never wanted to leave his side.
The fresh air had done wonders to clear her head, and as the late morning turned into mid afternoon, Renée stopped off for a quick pick me up, and a few pastries to take home to John and his niece as well. The bakery air smelled wonderful, and it seemed she became a bit overzealous with her carrying capacity as she tried to pick up her drink, knocking it onto the floor. "Oh, pour l'amour de tout! je suis vraiment désolé," she said out loud, realizing she wasn't speaking English and becoming even more embarrassed.
"I apologize. Can you just 'and me a towel? I will clean it up and pay for another."
