What was supposed to be a forty-eight hour shift had changed into a 72 hour shift. Lisa was more than a little annoyed. She had a boyfriend back home, after all. A boyfriend that she hadn't been able to be with in over a year because they were both idiots. She had owled Anthony on Wednesday morning to tell him she had to work another day and wouldn't be getting off till Thursday morning. Catching a bit of sleep in the office, Lisa and her partner, Zeller, went out for their last night of rounds around one in the morning on Thursday.
Zeller suggested that Lisa and he split up, covering the residential areas of Hogsmeade separately so they could get done faster. Given the time of day and the low crime rate in those parts, Lisa happily agreed. Anything to get home faster was good with her.
Her heavy boots crunched on some early fallen leaves as she walked through the streets. Most of the lights were off, but there was an occasional glow of a lamp or lantern in a home. Lisa paused for a moment when she spotted a house that was pitch black. It seemed too dark. Even the moonlight wasn't hitting the windows. Pulling out her wand, Lisa crept closer to investigate, more as a precaution that anything.
Circling the house, Lisa realized that she was hearing something inside. It sounded like a woman crying. Lisa reached for the door and tried to open it, only to be flung back by a spell. "Shit," she said and scurried to her feet. But it was too late. The door to the cottage swung open and before she could react, Lisa was tossed further across the grass by a powerful hex.
"Back off," the man growled at her. "Fucking hitwizard bitch," he spat at her. "She is MY wife. I will do to her anything I want."
Pulling herself to her feet, Lisa shot a few spells, but the wizard was powerful and skilled. Each spell she sent his way was deflected and suddenly he was on top of her, the ground on her back and his hooded face next to hers. "You want to be my next wife," he growled at her. "You want to come into my house?" Lisa cried out as she felt the man's hands move over her and then suddenly, it was all black.
When her eyes opened next, Lisa blinked at the bright light. She could hear the muffled voices of people over her, sympathy heavy in their voices. She tried to sit up, but pain struck her suddenly, spreading all over her small body and she cried out again.
"Oh, sweetie, don't move," a sweet witch murmured to her. "You're not healed up yet, love. You just need to sleep," the witch said. "It'll be okay, dear. We'll get you fixed up."
"Anthony," Lisa managed to say. "Anthony Goldstein. Please, he's my boyfriend--"
"We'll send for him, dear. But rest. Here, drink this potion." A bright blue potion was brought to her lips and as Lisa drank it back, the world faded away again.
