The wave broke in front of him, and Rolf paddled his longboard into the the shore, hoping to catch the crest of the wave. Surfing in England was a bit limited, but this beach had some of the best waves one could find without getting shot and killed by muggle military in Wales. The beach had a growing population of kelpies, which brought it to his radar for the first time many years ago. As he stood, a young kelpie sprang from the water next to him, and Rolf smiled.
The water demon would want to kill him, of course, but Rolf enjoyed the danger of making the young ones play with him. He danced his surfboard over the waves, and the kelpie danced below him. It was nice to have something to do for once that wasn't remodeling the safe house. He practiced a couple tricks and reluctantly made his way to shore.
Rolf shook his long hair out of his face, and went to rest on his towel. Pickett, his trusty companion, had been taking shelter in his bag while he rode the waves. Rolf offered to pick him up, but the bowtruckle blew a raspberry at the idea of getting wet. Rolf laughed and grabbed another towel to drag his hair.
"Did you see the Kelpie?" Rolf asked his small companion. "Grandfather would have tried to catch one," he said with a smile. Pickett smiled sadly and climbed onto Rolf's outstretched hand. Rolf was so focused on chatting with his small companion that he didn't hear the person approach. He felt their shadow block out the sunlight, and when he realized that it was a person, he turned his head with a small smile, surreptitiously tucking his friend away in his bag.
