When Ron was getting ready to leave his house, he kissed Draco soundly on the lips. Susan handed him a brown bag lunch that he stuck in the satchel he wore round his chest. He kissed her properly as well. He felt for once that it was like he was an adult going off for his first day of work. Granted, he hadn't held a steady job. Ever. But it was nice to feel useful and like he was doing something.
It also got him away from the journals as much. Saturday had been a bantered filled conversation with George, and a gut-wrenching, guilt-laden conversation with Hermione. Ron had also had an intense reaction to the article in Witch Weekly, and felt that he probably shouldn't have said as much as he did. He loved all three of them though. Hermione, Draco, and Susan. He loved Draco and Susan in a different way than Hermione, but he loved them all the same. And he didn't know how to talk about it. So he had spent most of the evening sitting on his own in the garage, working on something for the baby.
When he had heard that El was missing, he hoped that maybe she had just gone to visit her uncle. He was sure that if he were a reasonable man, he'd allow her to come to stay if she were feeling out of sorts. Ron also knew that it wasn't likely to happen. As much as he didn't like Helen Dawlish, he knew she wasn't stupid, and she wasn't fickle. But she was young, and Merlin knows what happens to young people when they are lost, and possibly without magic.
So Ron did what he did best, and he volunteered himself to help. He knew he needed to drop his bias of the young woman ages ago. She had saved his and his lovers lives when she told them that the Wandholders were coming to her flat. But the way she had demanded information about Susan had hit a strong chord with him and he hadn't been able to shake it. To him, she was brash, and rude, and a threat.
He also knew that Neville trusted her; liked her even. And while Neville had made a mistake with Ivy, Ron knew he didn't typically make mistakes with people. Neville was a solid friend, and as loyal as Gryffindors come. So, Ron knew he needed to help find this girl. Even if afterwords he didn't speak to her again.
With determination and deliberation, Ron concentrated on his destination, and vanished from his front yard with a quiet pop. When he popped again, Ron was in the alley of a quiet street. A door swung open and a young man carrying a bag of trash jumped in surprise to see him.
"Wotcher, mate?" The man greeted with a confused look. "Lost, are ye?"
"Don't think so." Ron said with a soft smile. "This is the Leicester City Hotel right?"
The man nodded. Ron grinned.
"Don't mind if I do then," he said as he walked into the back stairway the young man came from. "Thanks, mate."
Ron made his way up to the floor Neville was on, and knocked on his door with a quick rap. "Oy! Nev! Open up!" He said when Neville hadn't answered after a few seconds.
