Draco paced back and forth in the corridor; he had been in the same place for twenty minutes now. Despite the fact it was so late, definitely past visiting time, Draco had flashed a smile at the nurses and they let him stay. He has left Susan asleep in bed and gone to the hospital, his argument with Ron via the journals earlier that day playing heavily on his mind and heart.
In his hands he was slowly turning over a small origami dragon, something he had been making since he was a child. Draco knew Ron would know he had been if he left the little dragon, he had been making them when Susan was first pregnant to put in the nursery, lots little dragons made from lots of different coloured paper.
Finally summoning the courage Draco walked onto the ward, his footsteps so quiet they could barely be heard. The lamps had been turned down to low what with it being so late, so he knew the darkness would help hide his presence. Stepping around the curtain, Draco froze. He wanted so badly to hold the man before him, despite all the shouting and name calling they had done earlier, despite all the anger that still boiled within him. Draco felt the guilt of him leaving resonating within his chest. Despite all the people Draco had slept with whilst he was away, none of them meant anything, the men tended to have red hair and the woman were of darker colouring.
Stepping forward Draco reached forward, almost without thinking about it, his hand hovering just above Ron’s hand on the bed. It was hard to be so angry with someone that you wanted to rip them to shreds but still so in love with them that all you want to do is to kiss them, hold them close and not let them go.
Placing the little origami dragon down on the side table, before letting his fingers lightly trace down Ron’s cheek, words he very rarely spoke escaping his lips, “I’m sorry,” had Ron been awake he wasn’t sure he would have allowed himself to say those words.
Stepping back Draco turned away from the bed, glancing over his shoulder once last time, he left, drawing the curtain closed behind him. Pausing once more briefly in the doorway of the ward, Draco steeled himself from running back to his exs bedside and headed to the floo, ready to go back to Bones Manor, back to Susan.
