I don't get many things right the first time, In fact, I am told that a lot Now I know all the wrong turns the stumbles, And falls brought me .
With two busy careers and a bloody war going on, Adam and Helen didn't get the chance to spend a lot of time together. It wasn't unusual for them to go a day or two without seeing each other. Adam hated it, but he understood. Helen was a rising star in the DMLE and the Prophet had a higher readership than ever. He was proud of her, proud of his own success, but he still wished there were more hours in a day. While he'd known that he wanted to marry Helen within weeks of her moving into his home, Adam understood how important it was to take his time. He wanted to prove to John and Helen how serious he was about this, but he also wanted to prove it to himself.
Adam had gotten dressed in a new suit, shaved and gotten a hair cut. The ring was tucked into the pocket of his jacket and with his walking stick (a necessity these days, his leg was nearly useless at this point) in hand, Adam waited in the living room for his beautiful girlfriend to come downstairs. She was, of course, ravishing. He'd ordered them a car for the evening, sleek and black with a bottle of champagne on ice in the backseat. Romance wasn't something he typically wasted his time on, but it seemed fitting for such a special night.
Dinner was at a fancy French restaurant in London. Adam spared no expense, ordering them another bottle of bubbly and tasting half the menu. They laughed and teased throughout the dinner, truly enjoying each other's company.
When the meal ended, Adam escorted Helen to the car, opening the door and smiling at her. "Are you ready for the next surprise?"
