Happy Daft Day, [info]ravenna_c_tan!
Recipient: [info]ravenna_c_tan
Title: The Cinnabar Sling, a story from Not Groom Lake
Author: [info]dingochow
Rating: NC-17 (very)
Warnings: Let's see: AU. Masturbation. Dirty talk. Wall!sex, library!sex, pickup truck!sex, outdoor!sex. Voyeurism. Very mild bondage. Just rather pervy all around. (Also, some attempts at humor.)
Prompt/Summary: ravenna_c_tan wanted a story with a mature, confident Harry, angst along the road to a happy ending, intensity in the smut, and Snape's POV. She also thinks AUs are fun!(so do I …)
Author's Note: Happy New Year, ravenna! Thank you so much for the prompt. This story kind of took on a life of its own, and I don't think that would have happened if I hadn't tried a Snape POV for the first time. I hope you enjoy the results.
Many thanks to my faithful beta, X, who suggested several of the more rational plot points.

I do believe this is one of the best AUs I've ever read! It's sincerly a damn good read! I'm saving this one to re-read later! Yup this is most assuredly a keeper!

Thank you!

It is a special pleasure to hear that someone is saving a story to reread. I hope you enjoy it the second time around-- and there may be more to come from this AU.

Oh, this was marvelous! I loved your Wizarding America, and Spider's caution, and Harry's casual recklessness. Hot sex, neat magical threats....

I'm so glad I kept that rec of Ravenna's open until I had time!

Thank you so much. I think you may be seeing more of this Wizarding America. The post of Librarian at NGL remains unfilled ...

Here on a rec from [info]ravenna_c_tan and wow, am I glad I read this one! It was hot and funny and hot and inventive and oh, did I say hot?? Whew. *fans herself* Your Harry was positively delicious, and I loved your Snape/Spider voice. This was a lot of fun, thank you!

Thanks for reading! I'm not sure I can take full credit for Spider's voice... there were times when I felt like I was taking dication. That Snape POV is a compelling thing.

We just wanted to let you know that we've added you to our Snape/Harry rec list, The Essential Snarry Reader. The list can be found on livejournal at Snarry_Reader and on Insane Journal [info]snarry_reader.

This list is a fairly comprehensive list of those Snape/Harry stories, art and meta we've most enjoyed. It's a work-in-progress as we're still adding stories and writing summaries/reviews. If there’s a different site you’d like us to link your story to, or any other changes you'd like us to make, please let us know. We've put a general warning of potential NC-17 content at the top of our list.

Thanks,

Gaycrow, on behalf of the Reader

Thanks so much. I opened The Essential Snarry Reader this morning to check out this month's recs and when I saw my own name there ... well, it was just lucky I was alone in the house because I squee-ed audibly for the first time in my life.

I have the greatest possible respect for the ESR as a resource-- it's on the very short list of essential links I provide to people who are curious about slash fanfic in general regardless of fandom. One of my little private goals was to someday get a story on that list, and to have it happen with my second effort (and first Snarry), well, it's a genuine thrill... thank you so much.

No changes I'd like to make now, but if there are I will let you know.

Ding

I'm so sorry that it's taken me so long to read this, but I have to tell you just how amazing it is. Lordy, but I love your writing style! Your characterizations are wonderful, but it's how you told the story that I absolutely fell in love with. In fact, it's strange - I feel like I've read you before, yet I know I haven't read anything under your [info]dingochow name. But whether you're incognito or brand new to me, it doesn't matter. Thank you for sharing this with us.

I hope you don't mind, but I friended you. Though it doesn't look like your IJ is very active, I don't want to miss any of your work. Cheers!

No problem at all. I'm planning to use that journal just for links to my fic ...and you've reminded me I need to update. My next fic out will be for Wankfest.

You may have read me before in another medium, it's certainly possible. My only other fic of this kind is "Hemlock, or the Beast Within", a Snape/Lupin for this year's Snupin Santa.

Thanks for reading and commenting.

Only have LJ, no IJ, therefore anonymous post, sorry.
Got here by someone's rec, but forgot whos. Sorry again.

Anyway, loved this piece, very hot and real and I loved the idea of the spider sitting in his bis information web and weaving. His pissy attitude fits right in with a systemsoperator from hell :-)
Although, how does one turn from potions to IT, I wonder?

liz-- i've known more than one IT person who came from the sciences. But I was thinking more of Snape's other life passion: information. I imagine Spider came to NGL to do what the Americans insist on calling "chemistry", became intrigued by his first experience with wizarding computers, and a monster was created.

Glad you liked the story!

This was hilarious. I do so love Brit wizards on American soil. When I read the word "Illuminati", I thought Nathan Muckle from "Once A Thief" was going to pop up in the stacks!

good grief, how the hell did I miss this story for so long?

That was an absolutely fantastic read. I really love the quirky voice you gave the story, and the way you manage to keep Snape and Harry thoroughly in character while sill changing the tone of the overall piece, practically changing the language they speak, as it were. I love stories that are fun to read not only because they're funny, but because the the *writing* itself is fun -- playing with the sound of the words, the words themselves -- and this is one of those stories.

Plus, Snape and Harry's relationship is great, it has the feeling of a nice slow build, even though they do sleep together rather early on in the story. Not to mention, hotness. The wall!sex scene is my personal favorite : )

Really great story, thanks!

This is possibly the most unusual AU Snarry fic I've ever read. I think it's brilliant and funny and Snape Spider is appropriately snarky! Too many brilliant things in it to itemize, really, but woah.

Here via a rec at crack_broom.

That was incredible. I loved the characterization -- Snape is still deliciously snarky and Harry is still lovably naive. I can just picture Snape as a disgruntled employee of an obscure branch of the American government (I'm assuming it's some branch of the government, anyway), who loves his work but hates the people he works with, at least on the outside.

All in all, a lovely story that had the right elements of angst, fluff and obvious affection. Great job!
