1. What made you decide to join the 2007 Snarry Games?
I had the honor of participating in the first Snarry (ahem) Games -- it was a brilliant experience. It was a no-brainer to come back and do it again. But if that weren't enough, I was just coming down from the total high that was my first time participating in merry_smutmas, and I was really suffering that disorientation and depression you get when you've finished a really large and exciting project. I saw this as a perfect opportunity to get back to that driving force, that creative high.
2. Which Harry Potter character is your favourite to write? To read? (any POV)
Oh, Snape for both, definitely, both canon and fan-works. Harry's a close second for both, also. Sometimes my characterization of Snape is not always what a purist would agree with, but I do think I have his voice down pat, possibly because he channels my Id. He reacts exactly the way I would if I let myself, and it's rather nice to let all that out on the page without censoring. :-)
3.What brought Snarry to your attention? Was it a specific event/fic/picture?
It was a specific website. My gateway drug was Harry/Draco, which I discovered after reading an article in the mainstream online press that mentioned (gasp!) slash fanfiction. They had a quote from an unremarkable HD fic, and the idea of them kissing, the idea of slash, galvanized my attention. I did a Google search for "Harry/Draco" and found FFN, then discovered Veela, Inc. on Yahoo!groups, then a few short weeks later, discovered Snarry and about wet my pants with excitement. I don't think I slept more than three or four hours a night for the next few weeks as I made my way through every single fic at the original Walking the Plank archive. From there, I found several Snarry Yahoo groups, and when people started migrating the bulk of their fannish activities to LJ, I came, too.
4. What is your stance on "Quidditch-toned thighs"?
Only if they're framing Harry's turgid manhood. Seriously, though, a Firebolt's got to work better than a Thighmaster -- lots more g-forces! :-)
5. Your own fanfiction (any fandom, any pairing): What do you think is your most underappreciated work? What do you think is your best work? Would you link them here for us?
For my most underappreciated work, I think that would be "Needs", which is a Prince of Tennis Akutsu/Dan fic. Probably people run screaming from the pairing because so much of the fic for it is dreck (with a few notable exceptions). But in this fic, I think I did a really good job characterizing them and making their relationship believable. People who've read it said things like "I don't normally read this pairing, but I'm so glad I did," and "you made me like this pairing" and "you've got into their heads" which just warm the cockles of my heart. My most underappreciated Harry Potter fics, I think, are the sonnets, limericks and haikus, because so few people read poetry.
As far as my best work, I'm tempted to say Twelve Days but that's because it's the first novel-length fic I've written and I'm inordinately proud of it (even though I know it could use oh-so-much more work). But if I'm being honest, I think "Confession" might be my best work. It's Snarry, it's chan, and sort of non-con and features a really fucked up Snape, and even though I'm not surprised most people would prefer to skip it, I still think it's a solid piece of writing.
6. In your opinion, will Severus Snape turn out to be 'Dumbledore's Man' in Book 7, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows?
Through and through. I hope to goodness he doesn't die.
7. What do you think of podcasting, the newest fad in fandom? Would you like to hear one of your own stories, or one of your favourites voiced via .mp3?
Heck, yeah! I love podcasting, and I'd be the proudest fanwriter on earth if someone podcasted one of my stories! :-D I think they're a really terrific way of experiencing fandom without needing to engage your eyes. Imagine listening to a story or catching up on fandom news while cooking dinner or cleaning the house! Anything that prevents me from remaining glued to my desk is good. With the advent of podcasting, I can get my fandom fix and still get my other stuff done. How cool is that?
8. What pairing have you never written that you would love to try one day? (Any fandom)
I think it would be a fun challenge to tackle Jeeves/Bertie Wooster, but I'd have to read a little more P.G. Wodehouse to take a believable stab at it. Bertie's got such a distinctive voice, you know? In HP fandom, I might want to try my hand at a Harry/Draco of respectable length. Strictly speaking, I have written them before, but it was just a drabble. In Prince of Tennis fandom, I'd love to try InuKai or MomoKai. Kaidoh fascinates me.
9. What's your favourite kink to read?
Anybody who knows my writing knows I have a bit of a thing for watersports fic. I wouldn't write it if I didn't like to read it. :-) I also love fic where the boys lose it in their clothes because they can't hold on one... second... longer....
10. How do you feel about participating in this year's Snarry Games?
Over the moon! Thank you so much for allowing me to participate! :-D
Thank you, venivincere!
