Original poster: snarrymod
Your Name (and lj name if different): mieronna (call me Miri)
Your Team: Angst (teamangst_art)
1. What made you decide on Team Angst?
It’s more of a challenge for me – I can do sweet and tender if I want, but I need to really concentrate and work for angsty and painful. And I’m more of an angst fan anyway ;)
2. Which HP character is your favourite to create in art?
Snape? Snape. I struggle with everyone else, but him I could draw in my sleep.
3. Has your experience in fandom changed the way you do art? How?
I have drawn more than I would have otherwise, and I tried more different media in quicker succession than I would have otherwise. Learned a lot about anatomy - not that you see it ;) But I have also stopped doing original art completely for a while and this I really regret. Fandom is one gigantic pot full of inspiration that never runs dry – you can illustrate yourself to death with canon and when you’re done (is anyone? I cannot imagine anyone being) there’s the whole of fandom with fanfic, meta, other art to inspire you. It stalls all other influences, as for me.
4. Do you prefer drawing your own scenarios, or drawing scenes from canon?
Hmmm. This is a difficult question. I like both equally well, to tell the truth. But I have done only a handful of canon illustrations, not sure why.
5. What made you decide to draw fanart the first time? Which fandom was it?
I wasn’t in any (online) fandom when I first drew fanart – it was either based on Tolkien’s work or on Sailor Moon (hey, I was 11), I don’t remember which was first. Later it was Elfquest. (I stayed a Tolkien fan through all my other phases and I still am, even though I don’t participate in that fandom) I was always a fannish person at heart, even when I shared my obsession with only one or two RL friends. As soon as I am a fan of something, I have to create in that world – most often it’s art, but I have also written fic and role played. Or learned three different sets of rune alphabets. When I entered the English HP fandom, I gave up writing completely and focused on drawing.
6. Who is your favourite fandom artist?
What, only one? I don’t really have one favourite artist, I like many - and often it's only a few works that I like, not everything the artist did. All right, a few names.
Anneth Lagamo, Laurence Péguy, ac1d6urn, nassima, Nebulaean, glockgal, caladan_dd and many, many more.
7. Have you ever been inspired to draw fanart for a fanfiction work? Why?
Yes I have, but unless it was for fests or a commission I have never done it, because I never found enough time between canon and my own ideas. Why? It's illustration. I'm an illustrative person - I always want to illustrate everything I read (and like) and some fanfiction work is simply brilliantly written.
8. What are your favourite mediums to work with?
Graphite, ink, coloured pencil. I don't do digital and I struggle with paints such as acrylics or watercolour.
9. Do you have a piece of art (fandom or original) you've done that you are most proud of? Would you link it here for us?
Uff. No I don't have one I'm most proud of, well I cannot pick one at least. And I usually dislike a picture once it's finished. I remember really liking to work on this GoF illu or this Snape/Black (NWS) or this Snape drawing.
10. Are you excited about the Snarry Games?
Of course. There's going to be so much awesome art *drools at the idea*
Thank you, mieronna!
