INTERVIEW # 5
Original poster: snarrymod
Your Name: Maeglin Yedi (maeglinyedi)
Your Team: Angst
1. What made you decide to agree to compete in these games?
Because I love Snape/Harry and have wanted to write some ever since HBP was released last year. This seemed like the perfect opportunity.
2. Why did you choose the Angst Team?
This wasn't an easy decision, since I enjoy writing both angst and romance (preferably in the same fic). In the end I chose Team Angst since some of my friends were already on it. Plus, as Gina said, since HBP it's a hell of a lot easier to write Snarry angst than Snarry romance. *g*
3. Have you always been interested in the Severus Snape/Harry Potter dynamic?
Oh yes, definitely. When I joined the HP fandom 3,5 years ago, Snape/Harry was one of the three major (read: only) slash pairings around. (Harry/Draco and Sirius/Remus being the other two). Snape/Harry immediately was my favorite. I love several aspects of their relationship: younger/older, teacher/student, Gryffindor/Slytherin, and Boy Who Lived/(former?) Death Eater. And I've always loved this pairing in just about every genre, from romance to non-con. It's still the pairing I read the most, and new canon over the years has only made this pairing more interesting.
4. What is more challenging to you – working WITH strict canon or working AROUND strict canon?
Either can be challenging, but it depends on the story. Sometimes, I'll include working around canon as part of the plot, and sometimes when the plot's about something not focused on certain canon aspects I'll just ignore canon (Sirius isn't dead, dammit!) and just stick an AU on the fic.
5. What motivates you?
Deadlines, usually. :-P
6. Do you have plans for (or are you already writing) original fiction?
Not at the moment.
7. What three things are necessary for you to enjoy a story you are reading?
Certain characterizations of the main characters. (Characterization is such a fickle thing and personal for everyone, so I'm not going to say 'the right characterization'. Just something close to how I view the characters, and even this isn't set in stone and can vary depending on the setting of the story, etc) And I love plot and smut; my ideal fic is long, complete, and has plenty of both plot and smut. (That's not to say I won't read the occasional gen fic or PWP, of course)
8. What are your Top 5 favourite fanfiction stories?
I can't possibly answer this question. I've been in fandom for quite a long time and I've read so many wonderful stories over the years, I really can't select only 5 of them as my favorites. I have a recs journal where you can see what sort of fics I enjoy reading: maeglin_recs. The Snape/Harry section can be found here.
I can list a few of the 'Snape/Harry classics' (which were still quite new when I first read them), which have influenced my views on Snape/Harry over the years. If You Are Prepared by cybele_san comes to mind, as does The Tea Series by somniesperus, Rite of Passage by rushlight75 and just about everything by miraminx.
9. Do you have a story (any fandom) you’ve done that you are most proud of? Would you link it here for us?
Since this is a Snape/Harry fest, let's stick to that pairing, and in that case it's Penance is the Play, my only long Snape/Harry fic to date.
10. Are you excited about the Games?
Yes and no. I think I'll get really excited once I finish writing my story and can look forward to reading everyone else's work. Right now I'm still a bit too anxious about it. :-)
Thank you, maeglinyedi!
