INTERVIEW # 3
Original poster: snarrymod
Your Name: Lux (escapisms)
Your Team: Angst
1. What made you decide to agree to compete in these games?
Well I got this really nice e-mail asking me to participate and I've never been asked to join a fest before, so how could I say no? Seriously, though, I thought it would be a really cool experience and I wanted to be a part of it.
2. Why did you choose the Angst Team?
Rock, Paper, Scissors
3. Have you always been interested in the Severus Snape/Harry Potter dynamic?
More or less, yes. When I first got into Potter fandom, I tried the obvious one: Harry/Draco. I was so excited when I found out that Aspen wrote in the fandom, though. I'd read her other work a few years earlier and I think I squealed really loudly when I realized it was THE Aspen and she wrote Snape/Harry, too, and it was all downhill from there.
4. What is more challenging to you – working WITH strict canon or working AROUND strict canon?
This question has had me stumped for 3 days. Honestly, I don't really know. Each story is different and sometimes I need to use canon and sometimes I don't. Either way it can be equally challenging.
For example, with 'As Children Often Do' I was working within the canon of Goblet of Fire, but the only thing I really needed to worry about was the timeline. It was a pain in the butt, but not particularly challenging. However, the story I'm working on now was started before the release of Half-Blood Prince and Dumbledore played a bit part. I've had to go back and decide what needs changing to fit canon and what can be fudged over. So I think it really just depends on what I'm working on and the loopholes I can exploit. Does that make sense?
5. What motivates you?
Oh any number of things, but mostly my friends. They encourage me and make sure that I don't go completely around the bend. They're also very good at telling me when the idea I've got is utter crap or if it's really very good and beat me over the head when I think it's utter crap.
And candy. Candy is a great motivator.
6. Do you have plans for (or are you already writing) original fiction?
I've already dabbled in original and I plan on going back to it as soon as I think of something to write that hasn't already been done a thousand times over. It's gonna be awhile.
7. What three things are necessary for you to enjoy a story you are reading?
1. Good characterization. There are so many stories that I've stopped reading because I couldn't believe the things the characters were doing or saying.
2. Basic grasp of grammar. That's an obvious one. I don't have too many demands. Just use spell-check and be able to put a sentence together.
3. Plot. Give me a plot that makes me think and makes me see canon in a whole new way and I will fall all over it. And if you happen to throw in some really good sex, even better!
8. What are your Top 5 favourite fanfiction stories?
1. The Price of Wisdom by James Walkswithwind and Mad Poetess -- I fell in love with Percy while reading this story. He becomes so much more real that it's a little painful. I understood his position better, too.
2. Longer by Isidore13 -- This is the best piece of FT BDSM I think I've ever read in fandom. It isn't just about sex, it's about maintaining a Master/slave relationship and I love it for making my heart clench.
3. Lacy Things Series by Diana Williams -- Who knew Snape in women's clothes could be so damn sexy? I always have to stop reading just to catch my breath.
4. Care of Magical Creatures by Arsenic Jade -- I don't think I've ever cried over a story like I cried over this one. Arsenic Jade brings you up and down so effortlessly, so skillfully that you're laughing and crying all at the same time.
5. The Love Song of Bastard and Idiot by Predatrix -- This is how I like my sex between Harry and Snape. 'Nough said.
9. Do you have a story (any fandom) you’ve done that you are most proud of? Would you link it here for us?
Right now, I think the one I'm proud of the most is Requiem.
The one I'm most proud of that people have actually heard of is probably As Children Often Do. I've gotten so many, "Oh my gosh, I can't believe I liked this" responses that I can't help feeling a little bit smug.
10. Are you excited about the Games?
I am really excited about the games. Everyone is going to say how great it is to be on the same team with so many wonderful writers and they'll probably all say it far more eloquently than I do. So, ditto.
Thank you, escapisms!
