INTERVIEW # 13
Original poster: snarrymod
Your Name: Stellahobbit
Your Team: The Winners! Sorry, I mean, Team Angst
1. What made you decide to agree to compete in these games?
I thought it was an excellent way to commemorate the grand unveiling of the new and improved Walking The Plank site. Plus, I knew that it would motivate me to write more Snarry.
2. Why did you choose the Angst Team?
Even though I've written quite a few humorous fics, most of my stories tend to focus on the problems associated with a relationship between Harry and Severus, regardless of how old they are, or what their current situation. It's the overcoming of these problems that leads the way to romance, in my humble opinion.
3. Have you always been interested in the Severus Snape/Harry Potter dynamic?
When I first became aware of HP slash, I was linked to a few Sirius/Remus stories which were technically very good, but I didn't feel the spark. The moment I read my first Snape/Harry fic, I knew it was the pairing for me.
4. What is more challenging to you – working WITH strict canon or working AROUND strict canon?
Most of my stories take place outside of canon. Well, they're as canonical as they need to be, but the situations portrayed in the books aren't situations I've had to work around. In this competition, I'm making a conscience decision to be HBP compliant, so it will have some effect on the story, of course.
5. What motivates you?
A really excellent idea, a scene that pops into my head for no reason at all, a style of writing I'd like to try out…I also like to write for people, but most of the time I'm writing for myself and for loupgarou1750. She's my one true beta, and is very good at getting to the heart of the matter. If it gets past her then I'm satisfied I haven't cut any corners.
6. Do you have plans for (or are you already writing) original fiction?
No. I don't have the time or the energy to pursue that in RL. I'm creative in other ways, and that takes care of my urges towards creating something new in the universe.
7. What three things are necessary for you to enjoy a story you are reading?
I hate to be a snob, but I can't enjoy and/or finish a story full of spelling and grammatical errors. I'm such a pedant that any time I see something like that, it throws me out of the story, so I can't suspend my disbelief and enjoy it. A plausible plot is important, as is having the characters actually stay in character. I think that stuff gets easier the more you write. I cringe when I look at my early Snarry attempts ;-)
8. What are your Top 5 favourite fanfiction stories?
Ah, see, I hate to judge. I like different stories for different reasons, and that usually depends on my mood. Do I have to? Okay, these are just off the top of my head, and are in no way the only fics I like. They are, in no particular order.
1. 'So Lonely Without Me' by Caligraphy.
2. 'The Tea Series' by Telanu.
3. 'Parseltongue-Tied' by Dementor Delta.
4. 'Scratch' by Aucta Sinistra
5. 'On Wednesday' by Tryfanstone.
9. Do you have a story (any fandom) you've done that you are most proud of? Would you link it here for us?
I've written a lot of stories in a number of fandoms, so I'll limit myself to the Snarry. I like most of my stories (thank goodness, or else why would I still be doing this?) but the one that I thought turned out particularly well was The Care Of Infants. It was one of those ideas that came to me in a flash and I knew from the moment I started exactly where it was going. I also like the fact that, in my mind anyway, every word was necessary and perfectly placed. Which leads me to the conclusion that I should employ brevity in all my future stories ;-)
10. Are you excited about the Games?
Hell yeah! It should be fantastic. I can't wait to read all the fics and I'm so impressed with the huge amount of people that are taking time out of their busy schedules to make the readers (myself included) enjoy the very first games.
Thank you, stellahobbit!
