Summary: He'd hardly known what to call love until he'd had it.
Breathe, he reminded himself, staring at the figure across the room. Black, messy locks tumbled over troubled green eyes as the figure hunched over the desk, scribbling away with a black quill.
Beautiful. It wounded and astounded him that he thought so.
He wanted to cross to that figure, embrace it, smooth away the marks of pain of which others seemed heedless. He wanted to take those lips in a kiss, violent or tender, he could never decide which. It had to be perfect: passionate, spelling out his desire and, above all else, promise undying, unquenchable love. He wanted to disrobe that figure, run his hands over chest and belly and heated loins, awakening and fulfilling impossible degrees of arousal. Most of all, he wanted those arms to wrap around him in return, warding off the chill of loneliness and despair.
It would never happen. Could never happen. He hated the fantasy for what it had made of him. It had invaded his dreams, obsessed him with finding ways to tell a mere boy how deeply, how cruelly he had fallen. The absurdity of it made it no easier; wanting what you would never have, knowing you would never have it...Why could he not put the two together and have done?
He scowled and turned away. Turned back towards his long nights of restless longing and hopeless despair.
