INTERVIEW # 19
Original poster: snarrymod
Your Name: Sazzlette
Your Team: Angst, babeh :D
1. What made you decide to agree to compete in these games?
I wanted a challenge. I've never written Snarry and I've wanted a chance to make myself do so. Also for the chance to get to work with some really great authors.
2. Why did you choose the Angst Team?
Personally I can't see myself writing Snape and Harry in a typically romantic situation, and overall I think I prefer writing angst. As much as anything it was determined by the mood I was in at the time!
3. Have you always been interested in the Severus Snape/Harry Potter dynamic?
It's a pairing I have an odd relationship with. I'm extremely picky about it; sometimes I love it, and sometimes I hate it. Though I'm expecting to see some great pieces come out of this.
4. What is more challenging to you – working WITH strict canon or working AROUND strict canon?
I do whatever feels right for the story, I suppose. I've written both AU and slotting a plot into canon. I suppose I enjoy the challenge of working a story around canon, slipping in details from the original stories, but also it's nice sometimes to take free reign.
5. What motivates you?
God, there's a question and a half. I suppose a lot of the reason I write fanfiction is for the responses. Partly that I want to hear praise and criticism of my work, but also because I love to hear that I've made someone smile, or cry, or turn their nose up in disgust. It's a great feeling to hear that you've affected someone strongly just by a few words in the right order. Aside from that, my friends. I've met some fantastic people through fandom and they encourage me shamelessly and keep me from going barmy.
6. Do you have plans for (or are you already writing) original fiction?
I write the odd thing, but at the moment I'm just kicking back and making the most of fandom before I get bored or find I don't have time any more. In the future though I'm sure I'll definitely be writing more original stories.
7. What three things are necessary for you to enjoy a story you are reading?
Well, fanfiction or original? With fanfiction the author has to have a good grip of the characters. The best fic authors keep the characters canonical but breathe their own life into them as well. Aside from that it's hard to say what I look for. I could tell you a long list of things that would put me straight off a story, but I'm not specific in what I look for; I'll read anything if I think it's well-written.
8. What are your Top 5 favourite fanfiction stories?
Oooh now this is tricky. There are so many stories I could put here, and I dread listing any because I know I shall miss one out that I adore. Well, here we go:
1. Umbra Nihili by cluegirl (Sirius/Harry) is a definite favourite of mine. On more than one occasion I've stayed up all night to read it. The characterisations are excellent and the writing continues to excel itself with each chapter. I hate to say a story defines a pairing for me, but if anything could, then this would.
2. Confessions, Chosen by elskegaderian (Remus/Frank) is short and sweet, and just makes my heart break for Remus with a few well-chosen words. She does have such a way with words that makes me green with envy, and her approach to these two characters melts my heart every time.
3. Opus by spessartine. I really couldn't rec this woman enough. Her characters are dark, cruel, and utterly delicious, and she bends the words to her will with a talent that I could only ever hope to achieve. I hope this makes her blush.
4. Moecha Putida: An Interlude by cocoalatte is stunning. Rich with dark undertones and a striking technique and she just makes me shiver. Utterly brilliant.
5. Finally I'll say Beautiful World by Cinnamon, because there are very few stories that could make me love this pairing at all, and this one really grabs you by the heart and twists. Stunning.
Excuse me for getting carried away :D
9. Do you have a story (any fandom) you've done that you are most proud of? Would you link it here for us?
I think there are only a couple of my stories I'm actually proud of, but one of them would certainly be My brother in arms, which is Gideon/Fabian Prewett.
10. Are you excited about the Games?
Yes :D Though pants-wettingly nervous might be a better way to describe it.
Thank you, sazzlette!
