OPENING GAMES FREE-FOR-ALL CHALLENGE No. 6 from Fanficforensics!
We have another drawble! We are very pleased to introduce [info]fanficforensics to the Games:

Title: Dancing shoes
Author/Artist: [info]fanficforensics
Thing/Place/Action: squeaky shoes, in a cemetery, reclining
Drabble/Drawble/Ficlet/Limerick?: drawble
Rating/Warnings/Kinks: none
Notes/Disclaimers/Betas: Summary under cut (Italics are bastardized quotes from Neil Gaiman's 'The Graveyard Book'. Very sorry for having unclean thoughts about your lovely book, sir.)

"Nobody Owens, er, Harry Potter, is a normal boy. He would be completely normal if he didn't live in a sprawling graveyard, being raised and educated by ghosts, with a solitary guardian who belongs to neither the world of the Light nor of the Dark..."

Harry as Bod and Snape as Silas in a scene from 'The Graveyard Book'. Harry is given his first ever pair of shoes by his guardian Snape so he can go dance together with the ghosts. But then he learns that Snape isn't allowed to dance with everyone else, because only a wizard who is either Light or Dark can join in...

"Harry shivered. He wanted to embrace his guardian, to hold him and tell him that he would never desert him, but the action was unthinkable. He could no more hug Snape than he could hold a moonbeam, not because his guardian was insubstantial, but because it would be wrong. There were people you could hug, and then there was Snape."

Oh, I do like this! Their faces are wonderful. And the way Snape kneels in front of Harry to fit the shoe over his foot - you've caught a lovely combination of vulnerability and aloofness. And the altered quotes fit him perfectly.

So glad you like it! I snuck in some extra time to add the quotes... Gawd, an hour is way too short, Snape ended up with no legs because Harry's face wasn't working.

Lovely style, lovely pose.
And the expressions - just beautiful.
You've captured the weight of responsibility and expectation on both of them.

Thank you! Yes, there was world-saving to do in that other book as well, after a fashion... (Anyone who hasn't read 'The Graveyard Book', please give it a try, it's fabulous. And knowing it helps make sense of the pic. Kind of. *Silas love*)

LOL, This is so true, love the art and the *bastardized* quotes

The droop of Harry's sweater down his shoulder caught my eye immediately; it is a perfect symbol of his innocence and vulnerability. Lovely expression on his face as well, which casts Severus' role perfectly. The whole is a feast for imagination.

*wibble* Thank you so much, that's a lovely compliment. (Particularly since you have to imagine quite a bit, what with this having an, er, slightly unfinished look.)

That's a drawble?! Looks fantastic to me!
Harry is such a waif, with that bared shoulder. So slashy! Is the book as rife with slash and UST, I'd assume?

Thank you! The slashy overtones don't exactly hit you in the face, particularly since Bod is a very young child for most of the story (he's actually around ten here), but when you're looking for it... :) It didn't click for me until this scene with poor woobie Silas getting shut out of everybody's great big once-in-a-lifetime party just for what he is, and Bod wanting to get physical to comfort him. Then it was, wait, this is just like... damn, Snarry killed another children's book.

Severus Snape does it again....

LOL! As if Snarry could make anything worse instead of ten times better! Are you listening, JK?
