Artist's Notes/Thank you's:I am incredibly grateful to the creative and patient mods, and my fellow Team Phoenix artists. One year ago I was just discovering fandom, and the Snarry Games rocked my world. It is an honor and a privilege to be a participant.

It has been an amazing experience to work with a team, especially these incredibly talented and helpful Phoenixes. Believe me, this art would be much less satisfying without their awesome support!

The painting is inspired by an incredible story from Team Phoenix Author [info]perverse_idyll ,When the Rose and the Fire are One. The story just begged for a painting, and I had to oblige. I only wish there had been time to paint a huge tryptych, so intense is the visual, passionate intensity of this tale!

The collar was fascinating. It tickled and hummed very faintly against Harry's palms, and as he'd hoped, the twining, serpentine shapes could be discerned by touch, raised in shallow relief around the white throat. They felt as smooth as Snape's skin. Harry followed the interlocking designs with his fingertips, leaning forward, and breathing into the faintly humid area under the smoky curtain of hair. He'd never experienced such a haze of lust...

As he let his hands wander, Harry noticed that there was something familiar about the surface tension of the runes...

Blinking, he fondled the pale throat possessively...(and) leaned closer still and saw the black sigils separate into stylized serpents of greater or lesser length, intertwined and rippling, making their rounds.

Whoa. His hold clenched slightly as he fought the impulse to jerk his hands away.... He focused on the runes - the snakes. The longer he watched, the more he caught the flicker of minuscule tongues. Merlin, no wonder it tickled.

His eyes widened when a delicate serpent just above his left thumb, with one quick strike sank its fangs into Snape's throat. As he stared, more of the animated runes followed suit, biting in an apparently random manner before gliding onward in their preordained tracks. A rush of gooseflesh swept over him. How must that feel?

On a sudden whim, he rested his lips against Snape's throat and whispered in Parseltongue.

OMG Ven! Stunning. Gorgeous. I am absolutely speechless. The rose and thorns as well as the flames are beautiful but I have to say this may be your best work yet. Their body's, the way Snape's head is thrown back revealing his neck, the way they are entangled, Harry's hand on Snape's neck. You have taken a wonderful passage from that most excellent fic and brought it to life. Wow.

It's absolutely amazing! I envy your skills with the paint. Seriously.

And it goes so well with the story. That story was just screaming for some art to go with it, and this painting more than does it justice!

Simply lovely.

And I do love the contrast of that blue-gray with the orange of the flames!

OMG, Ven! It was quite a while before I could tear my gaze away from Sev's exposed throat and check out all the lovely details. But I just keep wandering back again and again. His long neck with that collar, his thin lips, his eyes, his hair, the perfect line of his chin, his abandoned look, his ear, and oh, his lips, his lips again... It's not that I don't like Harry, the flames and the roses but I'm enthralled by your Sev. It's overwhelming. *backtostaring*

I've said before that I love this, and that definitely hasn't changed. It's so intense - the detail is beautiful and the expressions are gorgeous.

OH. MY. GOD. *shrieks and pounces on you*

This is aMAZing. You've managed to compress into one glorious image exactly the kind of intensity I was striving for - but it took me 80,000 words and you've accomplished it within a single frame! Holy fuck. The colors and textures are just breathtaking. Harry's body in particular is gorgeous, beautifully tinted and contoured. It cries out to be touched, with those thick strokes of pigment, and the shadows along his side, his slight boniness, and the way the firelight shimmers on his skin. I love the red-gold threads reflecting the flames and edging their hair. Harry's arm is fantastic, painted with such detail and, God, character, and the sheer breathholding tension of him cupping Snape's throat, his lips hovering over the runes - wow. Incredibly erotic. Just what I could have wished for.

I join [info]majmunka in her admiration of Snape's lips. So vulnerable, as is his whole pose. I'm especially fond of the way Snape's hair sweeps his shoulder. And the runes, Jesus. The snake rising with its fangs bared? Just perfect. I also like the way the fire coils, the way the briars mirror the flames, the way both of them echo the twining of the snakes. You've conveyed a whole plotline here by having the roses darken in color as they climb. That red rose bursting open above Snape's head, glowing in triumph - yes, exactly. That's it exactly. God, it's brilliant, how you hint at the story's climax despite the horrible, ravishing death closing in around them. And you've turned these two symbols, roses and fire, into an embodiment of Snape and Harry's complex passion, how inevitably they intertwine, how mutually destructive and yet blazing with life and beauty they are. Yes. In a single picture.

Excuse me while I stare. And repeat myself like a gibbering idiot.

I don't think there could be a better visual interpretation of what I intended than this, distilling so much heat and radiance and magical intensity and that sense of being trapped inside a roaring explosion of erotic power. I'm stunned. I'm honored. I'm so fucking thrilled by the way this turned out. I can only stare in rapture as the fire consumes them. Thank you, Ven, a thousand times thank you. I'm so jittery with excitement that I have to go pace around my house now to calm down. *hugs you madly*

Wow, I loved the fic -- this truly expresses that scene perfectly. The colors are wonderful -- Snape's expression as well. His face seems to sincere, for some reason.

gorgeous, gorgeous - *squishes Ven* - the brushstrokes are fabulous, the weight of the paint in their bodies is so expressive.
I love the roses, especially the red one, but all of them are beautiful, delicate and dangerous at once...
Snape's neck, from his jaw to the collarbone notch, oh - fantastic, and the tattoos - I love the way the follow the surface of his skin, gah that always trips me up in my stuff. so much love for the vulnerability there.
very evocative. :D
