I'm an engineer's son and I grew up around construction sites and, indeed, bridges. I love architecture and I love Tower Bridge as one prime example of such.
For the research and the keen portrayal of the details - including things I know well, like the complaints any feat of engineering has to work through. Heh. igtow, who was my architect sounding board throughout the editing process, said the same thing about the thankless job of designing and building. I couldn't find any historical reference to what Queen Victoria's feelings were about the bridge, but I did read a lot about her personality and governing style, so imagined she would have had a word or to to say about the process taking eight to ten years, and the amount of noise and commotion the construction caused. It must take as much diplomacy as talent and skill to be an architect/engineer. My hats off to them all!
Also, I just want to say thank you for taking a chance on this fic by following the rec. That means a lot to me knowing that you're not really a snarry shipper or a snape fan at all. *hugs*
Thanks again for the comments. It was great to meet you!
