Re: Continued from previous because yeah, RAMBLE
Aw, yay, hello! *friends back* And ahaha - I think I've already done more than my fair share of bringing infidelity fic into fandom. ;) Some days I think it's all I write... Although 90% of that is angst-free PWP to amuse myself, so...
That's interesting about Remus. I recc'ed your fic over here, btw, and we all got talking about infidelity fic in general, and I was saying to a friend that even though I like it as a plot point for pretty much any pairing, there are definitely HP characters that work better for it than others - Snape, for instance, seems perfect for it to me, because he's used to lying and deception, really. Sirius, on the other hand, is above all a loyal man, in canon. For him to cheat on a partner would break my heart, I think. Remus is similar, in a way, although I don't know if I'd characterise him as loyal, necessarily (--cough-runningoutonhiswife-cough--) - more than he's so mild-mannered, as you say, and above all desperate to please his friends/lovers. For him to destroy a relationship that way is so fascinating to me...
At any rate, re: Harry. Aw! Well, here we are then, with authorial intent diverging from reader interpretation. I shall cling to my ambiguity, and chalk at least some of the "does he know??" question up to Snape's guilt coming through, and making him a bit panicky regarding discovery. Which is interesting in itself, really, because it shows that he does know it's wrong, what he's doing - he might want to think of it as just a dalliance, but he knows it would crush Harry if he found out.
Hostility and warnings... it's interesting; the only time (that I can recall, heh), that I received a hostile comment accusing me of not warning appropriately in a fic header was on an infidelity fic. I think I'd said, "A bit of infidelity" in jest in the warnings, since the title, pairing, and summary all more than broadcast that it was wedding day infidelity, but still, a commenter wanted a serious, full warning for "ADULTERY" in neon, I suppose. :/ It's something I never even used to think to warn for - 'Cheat', for instance, one of my first stories back in 2005, doesn't have that warning, or didn't used to - but now it's the first thing I think to warn for, because I know readers are so sensitive about it.
I am rambling beyond belief. Come over to my post linked above if you want, and I can stop rambling in your fic comments! I would totally be interested in an infidelity fest of some sort, YES! I don't know rurounihime, but thanks for the links! It's always lovely to find new fic to read. And I do enjoy H/D - I find I actually like it even more since DH, and of the small number of HD Worldcup stories I've been able to read, I totally gravitate towards the Epilogue stories with explicit infidelity. *g*
