TEAM ANGST ENTRY - Canonfodder!
Title: Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun
Artist: [info]canonfodder (Canonfodder123 on LJ!)
Team: Angst
Email: canonfodder123 AT hotmail
Genre(s): Postwar & Hurt/Comfort
Rating/Warnings/Kinks: G . Drag mouse over space if you wish to know * Implied character death *
Artist's Notes: I'm glad Snape got to be a hero in the end - I bawled my eyes out reading it, though! Title is from 'Funeral Blues' by W.H. Auden which I've always loved.
Media used: Pencil & photoshop for the touch-ups
Archiving/Usage permission, including the Tribute Video (only after the polls have closed and medals have been awarded): Go for it :)

Funeral Blues

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message He is Dead.
Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.

He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last forever: I was wrong.

The stars are not wanted now; put out every one,
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun,
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the woods;
For nothing now can ever come to any good.

- W.H. Auden

'Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun' by Canonfodder

Aw....that's so touching! I love the effect of simple black and white, with all the grainyness of a pencil drawing. You've got a nice touch with values and the poem makes it really powerful!

The pencil and the darkness are perfect. This is so poignant and, with the poem, so devastating. Snape's hand...

Wah, so sad! I love how Snape seems to be reaching for Harry from the photograph. And Harry's grieving expression. The shading is wonderful, and the dark mood you convey with the expressions and the b&w is really heartbreaking. God, I can't stop looking. Great, great job!

You did an amazing job with composition and your light and dark values - I love how Harry and Snape interact, even though Snape is two-dimensional. Wonderful work!

Perfect. I'm so glad that this is in black and white because I think you get a better sense of Harry's anguish. Harry seems to be drawing comfort from the picture; so like Snape to keep taking care of him even after death. Lovely.

I love how used and well-worn the piece of newspaper is, almost breaking down at the folds. It says so much of how often harry has needed it. And the intimacy of lying and falling asleep nest to it, with Snape trying to comfort him without his knowing, it breaks my heart. Fantastic use of prompt, beautifully sketched, full marks.

This is a fantastic piece of work. The parallels of Snape coveting Lily's picture, and the picture of Snape held by Harry is as heartbreaking as the way that photo!Snape is reaching towards Harry with his typical snarly expression.

Wonderful job!

Gorgeous!

The poem fits the setting of the piece wonderfully.

I rated: (9,9,1)

1 = it is very pretty, but very sad. Sad is sad. I don't like sad.

But the drawing style..... WOW!

I'm an idiot. >_< It's why I never vote in these things in the first place (I don't trust my opinion of things).

I rationalized this one as an exception in that the only thing I rate low was how I personally took in the picture (b/c I thought that wouldn't be counted against the picture... not like the 'how well does it fit the prompt?' question).

Forget my stupid comment. This is great. (no, really, it is. If it weren't, your name wouldn't ring any bells with me. I only ever remember names of people whose work I go back to. Probably for emailing/contacting them with a one-sentence response: "I like your stuff.")

Auden was one of the first authors I thought about after canon!Severus' death. In this work you conveyed the private emotion and the longing, tender and desperate- the very soul of the poem.
