“I’m sorry,” gasped Sybil, “I told Snape you were dead!”
 
Five wands targeted her heart, including the one that had incinerated Voldemort.
 
The storm howled outside the infirmary windows, as she belatedly comprehended her peril.
 
“The tea-leaves said that Harry was dying,” she muttered, “And I heard it on the wind.”
 
“No! Oh Severus!”
 
Harry’s cry was aching, desolate.
 
“I’ll bring him home,” Lupin promised, “In payment of the Marauders’ debt.”
 
He would run beneath the moon to hunt down the Potions Master. If the scent still blew true. If Snape’s over-burdened spirit had not already unravelled in the wind.
