Harry's heart pounds as he opens the door. He has a bottle of Severus's favorite wine – insufficient apology for his tardiness, he knows.
"Shut the door, you're letting in a draft."
Harry stands frozen on the threshold, watching Severus brew – the precise movements of his hands, hair falling into his eyes, his habit of muttering to himself.
"Are you deaf as well as witless? Shut the door."
"Severus?"
There's a flash from the potion and Severus sets the stirring rod down. "When did you get here?"
Harry smiles and kisses him. It seems that no apology is necessary after all.
