As the bombshells of my daily fears explode

Haven's Loft was blessedly quiet as Hermione all but fell through the fireplace. It was much later than she'd planned to be home, and she hoped that Leila would forgive her for not being home for good-nights.

Thank God she has Harry, and Crookshanks. Some mother I am -

She forced down the guilt and managed a weary smile as she spotted Harry. "You didn't need to stay up so late, you know. How is Leila? There were so many books to check that I lost track of time."

Hermione wasn't hungry, but she knew she needed fuel. Her energy began to return as she ate, and she took the opportunity to mull over what Harry had said.

"You know, he's been scratching his forearms for a few weeks," she said at last. "I wonder if there's something about his - "

Her voice died away as she thought back nearly ten years. "Harry? Wasn't Ron injured when we went to rescue Sirius back in fifth year? I was on so many healing potions I don't trust myself to remember."

	"That's right!" Hermione exclaimed. "He kept boasting about it, that he'd been attacked by someone famous and lived." She snapped her fingers in frustration. "It wasn't anyone British, I know that much. It's on the tip of my tongue - " Her eyes widened in shock. "It was Grindelwald, I'm sure of it! Here, give me the G's, surely there's a picture!" Hermione set her jaw as she stared at the photo of the man who'd taken over her lover. "He's not going to win." Her finger splayed over the page. "We aren't - we can't lose Ron. Can't."

Her eyes stung as she looked up at her friend. "Oh, Harry -

The tension finally dissolved, and she let her head fall to his shoulder as the tears came. We're coming, Ron - please don't give up, we're coming -
