The Reading of the Will
Characters: To whom it might concern
Summary: Sirius' will holds a few surprises.
Sirius Black's solicitor found the circumstances of his charge's will highly unusual, but completely unarguable as well. Young Potter had delivered it to him unopened, and investigative spells failed to disclose any tampering with the family seal or alteration of the text. Just why Mr Black chose to leave the will with a relative, rather than safely in his solicitor's triple-locked files, was but one of the mysteries of his late client.
No matter the blow to his professional pride, however, the solicitor could not dispute the legitimacy of the will.
Thus owls had been sent to the heirs and a few individuals Mr Potter had insisted on -- cheeky little bastard, even if he did save them from Voldemort -- and the designated day had arrived. The solicitor walked into his small conference room and prepared to deliver his most interesting and difficult client's final will and testament for the second time.
"Good afternoon, and thank you all for coming. Mr Potter has asked me to dispense with the usual discussion and documentation, however, all matters pertaining to the authentication of Mr Black's final testament will be on record here and at the Ministry if any of you wish to reaffirm what we already know. This - "
He held up the simple parchment with the Black family seal on it. "Is Mr Black's final wishes on the dispensation of his properties, which we will have read now."
The solicitor tapped the document and whispered a spell that had been in his family for as long as he could remember. Ravenclaws were far more inventive than people gave them credit for, and in return, they guarded their innovations with the tenacity of mothers protecting their young. It was Sirius Black's voice that began to recite, loud and confident, the terms of his will.
I, Sirius Black, being sound of mind and under no threat of magic or force, do leave this document to be my final will.
To my godson Harry Potter, whom I love as if he is my own child, I leave my motorbike, my game room and everything in it, my acoustic guitar, and my share of ownership of the property known as Haven's Loft, with the expectation that Faelan Wood be allowed to live there for as long as he wishes to do so.
As Harry has no need for money, the contents of my Gringott's vault are to be divided evenly between my foster son, Faelan Wood, and my dear love, Gaius Blank.
To Faelan, I also leave my broom and my tent, which may serve him well when he needs to be someplace remote for a night or two.
To Gaius, I also leave my rather impressive wardrobe, my electric guitar (because I think he'd look fabulous with it!) and whatever he wishes from our fantasy room.
To my brother Regulus Black, I leave the Black family grimoires (Harry knows where to find them, and knows better than to touch them) and my favorite knife, the one with the Streeler-shell hilt, to do with as he will, accompanied by my sincere apologies for being such an ass.
To my friend Remus Lupin, I leave my riding leathers, with the scuff he so enjoyed making fun of, and my love, always. I can't think of anything else he might want.
For the rest of my personal effects, I trust Harry Potter to dispense to Gaius, Remus, and others such things as are most important to them, and to keep what is most important to him.
Marked with my seal on this day, 7 June, 2003.
Sirius Black
The last was spoken as an exclamation, and Sirius' voice echoed once before fading away for good. After a silent moment, the faint face of a sour-looking man rose from the Black Family Seal and said, "So witnessed, same date and time, though why a member of the noble and pure House of Black would want to leave anything to you rabble is beyond this family founder!" The face exploded in a sparkle of smoky green light and there was silence yet again.
