The words were on the tip of Gaius' tongue, but he didn't utter them, feeling the war between bitterness and despair starting up again. He needed a distraction, and so he smiled and nodded, finishing off his cognac in a single gulp. "Oh, look, there's Regulus," he said, having followed Serenus' gaze toward his friend. "I should go check on him, make certain he's all right," he said, giving Serenus an apologetic look. "You're welcome to come with me, if you'd like. Both of you."
Remus sighed and shook his head, not feeling comfortable speaking with Regulus about Sirius, not yet at least. "You two go on," he said, gesturing to Tom for another cognac. "I'll save our table."
