In just a year
Characters: Debi, Zach, cameo appearance by Junior Status: complete
Debi rubbed the small of her back and surveyed the living room and the path into the bedroom. She'd worked all day to arrange the tropical flowers (some magical, some not), mix non-alcoholic versions of island cocktails, defrost the top layer of their wedding cake, and cook finger foods drenched in coconut milk and exotic spices. It was their first wedding anniversary, and would be their last before Junior was born, and she wanted everything to be perfect when Zach came home.
Best of all, they would be completely alone. Lil, who seemed to be having a wonderful time being alive, was spending a few days surveying the Tuscan farmhouse she'd bought but never lived in, Snitch was with Mrs. T downstairs, and Jane was off hunting. Debi had even timed it so that she could get in an afternoon nap and a long, luxurious bath, followed by half a tub of Alchemy & Ecstasy's scar cream on her stomach, thighs, and breasts. So far she hadn't had a single stretch mark, and she wanted to keep it that way, thank you very much.
As if knowing what she was thinking, Junior chose that moment to give her a good, sharp kick under the ribs. Debi rolled her eyes and rubbed her belly until Junior was quiet, then checked the wrap on her sarong. It was long enough to still fit around her with room to spare, thank goodness, but it wasn't as if she dressed that way most of the time, and....
There was a familiar sound coming up the stairs, and she quickly adjusted the orchid in her hair. Meeting her husband with a drink and a smile was an old cliche, but so was being barefoot and pregnant, so why not do both and have a little fun?
