Smiling and waving and looking so fine
Characters: Sirius, anyone at the Leaky Cauldron
Summary: Sirius sings

As he pulled out a leather vest that even James couldn't object to, Sirius smiled to himself. They had all been tired and vague when they woke, and had spent the day lazing about the house together, with James steadfastly pretending that nothing much had been said, and Lily looking alternately amused and anxious. When Gaius had finally come home from Hogwarts, Lily had drawn James off to the guest room -- Sirius thought to give him time alone with Gaius, but by that time it was almost time to go and get started on dressing for the show, and definitely too late to launch into a conversation about death.

The T-shirt and vest left his arms bare, so he cast his usual charm to highlight the tattoos on his right arm. Nothing happened. He didn't even feel a tingle. His mouth suddenly dry, Sirius tried again. It worked. Just a coincidence, he told himself. I was lazy with the wand motion. Nonetheless, he couldn't quite push down a feeling of dread.

He started the show with Bowie's Five Years. They might, perhaps, still be in danger, but their wasn't widespread perception of trouble; people should be able to take it as fiction. The charms, to his relief, all worked.

After that, he scanned the audience to see who was there, and then started into one of his own pieces -- Rumble -- with vigor, letting the guitar crash forward like a ship in a storm. He thought he'd made a change in theme until he got to the second verse

Tell me when the light is failing
I'll be the flame for your heart
Call iron bones from the mountains
When worlds would fall apart
Still doom, he realized, even as he dragged the bold chords down into a minor key and teased out the notes to shiver like unsteady ground.
Tell me when the light is burning
I'll save you from the scald
Give you shelter from the fire's storm
at the burning of the world

Won't you ask me
Won't you call me
Won't you tell me when you need me
Don't you know that I'm the one?
Lost from night to night
but shade shift shielding
at the fury of the sun
Still doom. And he wouldn't always be there, but then, no one was.

He switched into a little bit of teen angst with a bare-bones piece called Add It Up, and then went into Swamp, by the Talking Heads:
Now let me tell you a story
The Devil, he's got a plan
Bag of bones in his pocket
Get anything you want
Definitely in a rut, he thought, unable to keep from smiling around the words.
One time too many
To far to go
I-- We come to take you home
Oh well. He'd call Lily up on stage and make up for it. They had a couple of pieces ready, this week.

Faelan frowned when the spell failed. Sirius' smoke spell had taken a few tries too, and he felt a flutter of dread as he was jolted back to all of the feelings he'd had weeks ago when everything had been going so terribly wrong. But then Gaius' spell worked on the second try, and he blamed the liquor, making Faelan breathe out a sigh of relief. Sirius had been drinking, too, when he'd cast his charm. That would explain it.

"I'll keep my eyes open for tall, dark, and available men," Faelan told Harry, turning his focus back to the conversation. "Don't know any at the moment." With that, he frowned again, the comment sounding unreasonably dire to his slightly alcohol-muddled brain. "I really need to meet more people."

Eyes sparkling, Sirius vaulted onto the table. Like most pub tables, it was a little bit wobbly, but sturdy, and he rode the rock like it was a boat deck.

"OI! EVERYBODY. THIS IS FAELAN. HE WANTS YOU ALL TO SAY HI."

He pulsed his hands up, gesturing for a response, and quite a few people called back "HI!" or "HI, FAELAN!"

With a smirk and a bow, Sirius hopped down, sat, and pulled Gaius into his lap, belated remembering a breath charm that hinted of lemon and clove.

Laughing at his lover's antics - no doubt made funnier by the alcohol he'd consumed - Gaius went willingly into Sirius' lap, wrapping arms around him and kissing him back enthusiastically. Then he pulled back, chuckling as he rubbed his nose against Sirius'. "You know, I'm not the only one with tall, dark-haired, attractive brothers, you know. And Regulus doesn't have a jealous werewolf or a big, strong Auror to get in the way." He meant it as a joke, of course, and turned to wink at Harry.

For fuck's sake! More ale went flying across the table, and Harry could feel blood both draining and trying to flush his face, leaving him white with apple cheeks.

"He is handsome," Harry muttered with a note of defiance.

"Oi!" Faelan exclaimed, trying in vain to shield himself with his napkin. Ducking away from the beer shower and Sirius' embarrassing show (some people were still laughing and waving in his direction) he was confronted a little too closely with snuggling and dropped his forehead to one hand, turning to Harry.

"I really reckon you just need to get laid, mate," he reasoned, smirking as Harry wiped his mouth with the back of his hand. "Or else everyone's going to be setting you up with their brothers, and they're old!" This last bit was whispered as though it was a big secret.

"It's a drink Harry, not table polish." Sirius grinned. "But Regulus isn't a bad suggestion." He bumped Gaius playfully. "After all, my brother is much more handsome than your brothers," Sirius said archly. "He's my full brother, so he looks much more like me than they do like you, and we're obviously the sexiest people around."

Gaius laughed and kissed him again. Soon, Sirius decided, he should take him home and remind him how very sexy they could be together.

Harry was finishing up giving Faelan a stare that spoke loudly of "There's nothing wrong with older men" when Sirius approved of Regulus as a partner for Harry. His heart beat double-time for a moment before Harry sternly reminded himself that while he found older men dead sexy, Older Man Regulus didn't feel the same way about younger men. At least, Harry had always hoped it was his age that had made Regulus put their relationship firmly on the friends plane.

Throwing up his hands, Harry ordered another round of drinks, determined to get the upper hand, which meant being the least smashed by the end of the night.
