There was a shadow in Sirius' eyes, seeming to darken the grey to the color of the sky before a storm. Gaius had seen that same expression before in his lover's gaze, but this time it passed so quickly he wondered if he were mistaken, if it was just the plan of sunlight through the leaves. He clung to Sirius tightly, wanting his lover to know that he was there, whether there was happiness or sadness involved.
"Yes, fun is important," he agreed lightly, swirling his fingers over Sirius' chest, trying to catch the dappled rays of light as they danced over his skin. He thought about saying something else, asking Sirius what was on his mind at those times when he seemed to fall into himself, but he hesitated, not wanting to inadvertently stumble into areas that Sirius might not want to discuss. There would be time later, after all, now that the latest crisis was over, for him to probe gently, or perhaps for Sirius to decide to share without him even asking.
Gaius sighed, burying his face in Sirius' neck, inhaling his familiar scent and letting any questions go. Now was a time for simply being together, the two of them on a beautiful spring day with time stretching endlessly before them, full of possibilities. He was happy just to be in this moment, and he felt that Sirius was truly happy as well. "Mmmm... when we have recovered, how about another chase, this one on four legs?"
