Delighted at the genuine smile that crossed Bary's face, Padma laughed softly. "Yes, I'm not sure what I'd do if I didn't have any books. Drive the Aurors crazy demanding them, I think!"
He had set the book down, and Padma reached over to grip his hand for a moment.
"You're not alone in this, Barty," Padma said. "Despite everything that has happened, I'm still your friend. That's not going to change."
And it was true. Even if she had to visit him at Azkaban, she wasn't just going to abandon him to the mercy of the guards and the bare walls of his cell. Still, she hoped that somehow things would turn out right, and Barty could come visit her in her bookshop once again.
