Breaking the news (again)

It took three tries for Debi to get into Diagon Alley, even though she'd cast a perfect lumos an hour earlier when doing her semi-annual check on canned goods and other preserved foods that had passed their expiration date or were just plain weird (which of them had bought guava paste, and why?). Spells were so erratic that she couldn't help wondering if that awful Bellatrix woman had done something - but what?
"You can think about that later, Deborah Anne," she murmured, smoothing her clothes into place over her increasingly prominent bump. Yesterday an elderly woman in the local grocery had told her she looked wonderful and asked when she was due, so she clearly was starting to look pregnant instead of chubby. "Right now it's time for a little retail therapy."
She'd meant to tell Serenus much earlier than this, but between work, morning sickness, and a general sense of blah she hadn't felt like shopping or interacting with anyone. Now it was time to reconnect with the world, and that meant all her friends, especially someone who'd understand how self-conscious she'd been about her changing body.
That fact Alchemy and Ecstacy made stretch mark cream, and that her mother had scared her half to death with tales of hideous and permanent stretch marks, was a definite plus.
She turned the familiar knob and waved at Miriam as she entered, making sure that her cloak covered her torso. They'll want to know, but first I need to tell Serenus -
