Zach shut the door to their flat with his foot and dropped his bag by the front door. He bent low and scratched Snitch behind the ears when she trotted up to him but to his great surprise, she didn't linger with him. Instead she looked towards the bedroom and whined at him softly.
Taking his cues from the insightful dog, Zach headed in that direction and called out Debi's name as he did so. His slow, easy gait turned into a near-run when he heard the soft sounds of her crying.
He was beside her in a flash, pulling her face from under the pillow. "Debi. Love? What is it? Are you in pain?" A slight panicked tone coloured his voice. "Where does it hurt?"
