"I was sent a Valentine," Regulus said, sounding shaky even to his own ears. "A heart. A real one."
He could see the bright red organ, beating in a steady rhythm and sluggishly pumping out blood onto the white tissue paper enfolding it as vividly as if he still held the box in his hands.
"There was a note. It read, 'I spoke to Cupid, and he told me Masud wanted to give you his heart, so here it is. Aren't I helpful?' I'm sure I don't need to tell you who sent it."
