Her quick up-and-down study wasn't lost on him, and he felt himself flush. Wishing he'd worn a sweatshirt instead of wrapping up in a blanket, he looked down at his book, just then remembering that he was holding it.
"Oh, um, this is a history book about the war against Grindelwald. Gaius has me studying it..." he trailed off, awkward, realizing that Padma probably didn't realize he was uneducated...and not a wizard to boot. Setting the book on the entryway table, he gestured into the parlor, following her inside. Desperately, he searched his mind for something clever to say about his injury - or anything else - but he was forced to admit to himself that he was completely pants at this. A beautiful girl who was obviously, if mysteriously, interested in him was in his house with him all alone, and all he could think of to say was the boring truth. "I climbed up on the barn roof to draw the horizon, and apparently decided the ladder was a pretty unexcitng way to come down again."
