Who: Claire Temple and Peter B
What: There's gonna be a talk
Where: Their house
When: Today

They'd talked before, they lived together after all, and well after Vegas an actual talk about things had felt important to have. So they could both be on the same page about where they were with things, about what they hoped and wanted and Peter had felt like they'd found some solid ground between them once more.

And then there'd been John, who was charming and kind of ridiculously sweet for a guy who looked like that, and Peter had been only too happy to lose to him while they'd drunkenly played strip poker, but then John had asked about his shoes. Peter had seen them around the house ever since the night he'd walked John home, but he'd made no move to return them, and neither had Claire the shoes just sat there in their home like a sort of reminder.

It felt like it was time for another talk, not just a night of drunken shenanigans. Peter had no doubt that they'd all have fun with something like that, but having an idea of where they were going first felt important.

"Hey there," He grinned as he set himself down near Claire. "You have a good day saving the world?" He asked. Things in town had been quiet for a little while and then all of a sudden they weren't - it was a welcome change, really, but it made things a bit different.

Claire hadn't been trying for subtle. She'd wanted him to know that she wanted him and had every intention of letting him had have her, of them having each other, if things happened to go that way. But they'd still been feeling each other out, she wanted to know that he wasn't the same kind of mistake she'd made before. Claire had had quite enough of possessive assholes to last a lifetime, she wasn't in the market for another one.

They'd talked about a lot of things, but his being married hadn't been one of them. It didn't surprise her, he kind of seemed like the marrying sort. But she raised her eyebrows, glad Peter was telling her now and telling her how much he'd struggled to communicate. Claire nodded slowly as she stroked the back of his neck, firm as she traced a tense muscle up from his shoulder. "Sometimes we feel like what we're feeling will hurt someone if we tell them, but honesty really is better than the alternative."

A smile spread across her face, glad he'd done some of the work and didn't need his hand held through it. Claire leaned forward, kissing him again, slower this time, because didn't they have plenty of that around here. "I'm sad I missed it," Claire murmured when they parted. There was an ease and a relaxation in her now, maybe because she felt more confident in where she stood, where they stood together.

"I don't want a revolving door, I'm too old for that these days. I want more than that," Claire explained. "If you've still got wild seeds to sew, we can wait."

Yeah, Peter was the marrying type, especially when it had come to MJ, there hadn't been any other ending for them but that. And if he ever got home? Well he didn't know what was going to happen there, all of this kind of made things more complicated. But he was here now, he was living for this life he had here, and not what might happen at some point in the future. He wanted this, this thing with Claire that they were working toward. "I was scared," He told her, "About whether or not I could give her what she wanted. And if I told her that? Well I really wouldn't be enough." In the end it had been a little more complicated than that.

But what about life wasn't complicated? Especially here? Things could be complicated but one place he didn't want those kinds of complications was here with Claire. She was - simple felt like the wrong word, but this thing they'd been doing? It hadn't taken work, not real work. He'd brought her home with the intention that maybe he'd help her find a place of her own one day but when the time for that came Peter didn't find himself making that offer and Claire hadn't asked. And now here she was, warm and welcome with her lips against his.

"I'm sure we can have a repeat performance for you." He chuckled softly when she spoke softly again. It had been nice, those first kisses, and a part of him liked that he'd gotten that with John when it was just the two of them the way Claire had. So he didn't have to decide if he liked it just because Claire was watching, but rather because of something that he had there with John.

"I think I've been too old for wild oats for a long time." And well - Peter had never really been a wild oats sort of person. Whatever it had been with Carol had been - well he couldn't say rightly what it was except that it wasn't really him. "I'd like to give you something a little more reliable than a revolving door."

Of course Claire had thought about the fact this place might not be forever. People came and went, vanished without a trace not knowing if they went back to where they came from or what. So not starting something here would be smart, because if there was nothing to lose there would be nothing to hurt about later. But that was life, getting hurt, putting yourself out there and hoping for the best. It wasn't like she'd gone after Peter, or this thing, it just had been. They'd evolved and they could go right on ignoring it but her head might explode if they kept it up too much longer.

She laughed and she let her lips drag along his jaw. "Yes please, maybe front row, close enough to really enjoy it," Claire explained before she kissed him again. Because they'd started and his hands were on her skin and kissing him was really nice.

It was a relief to hear him say it, even if she'd known it. Claire didn't want to wake up to who knows who in her house, it wasn't like that and Peter seemed to innately know that. They were once again on the same page. "I like you too much for that," she said quietly. Just because she also liked John didn't mean she'd like everyone. This had gone past where it could just be something casual.

"What would you like to give me then?" Claire asked with a laugh.
