Thor knew full well that Gamora could hold her own. He had a feeling if he even questioned it she'd probably stab him. Or at least kick him somewhere unpleasant. He wasn't worried about that at all. They made a good pair in a fight like this. They could rely on each other to do what needed to be done, no questions asked. It wasn't everyday a match like that could be made. Thor thought he would much like to have Gamora along for more trips like this.
It might've seemed counter productive for Thor to find redemption from losing half the universe by kind of obliterating others but the intent behind it was at least noble. Helping other people who would otherwise be slaughtered or enslaved was a good cause, even if it meant death to the opposition. That said, he thought it would be fair if the people of this world offered asylum or to flee to those left alive not wishing to return where they came from. Some soldiers were forced into battle and did not seek it. He would leave it to their leaders to decide that.
When all was said and done, Thor nodded to those who were now crowding around him offering him their desperate gratitude. "Thank us not, good people. We merely wished to offer our aid. ...Or, well, I suppose you can thank us." He wasn't exactly opposed to anyone singing the praises of the God of Thunder. He could see several more were giving Gamora the same regards. "If you insist on rewarding us, we will converge in your nearest tavern for revels, merriment, and delectables. However, please tend to your homes, your families, your wounded." He strapped Storm Breaker to his back and then found his way over to her.
"These people wish to give us food and drinks. It would be a disrespect not to indulge. We can wash up in the tavern and perhaps dine together if it pleases you."
