Of course Steve wasn't trying to make him jealous but that didn't mean that Tony wasn't, at least a little bit. It was silly, of course. Because this was in the past and it was all very reasonable: Steve deserved someone, deserved to not be alone. Particularly around that time when everyone had been more alone than ever.
He couldn't help but wonder how the other version of himself had reacted to that news. But that was something Tony simply would not ask. Couldn't. And most certainly shouldn't.
"No one should be the frozen dinner sort," Tony said, because he most certainly wasn't either -- although he could be in a pinch. It wasn't like he was doing any of the cooking. But Steve shouldn't have been either. It spoke volumes.
"Oh," he went on, a little sorry he'd asked because honestly he should have known that it would be something like that -- but hearing it didn't make him feel better about it. "Well. I don't know. Work parties are a bit of a bore."
