WHO: Hawkeye^2 (Kate Bishop and Clint Barton)
WHAT: Checking In
WHERE: Clint's place
WHEN: Recently?
RATING: Low

Kate brought coffee. She'd found a little shop on the other side of the Doors, and had taken as much as she could carry--which was quite a lot, actually. It felt a little like stealing, but also a little like trying to survive in Starklandia. Ill begotten gains, so to speak. But delicious ones.

After delivering a couple of the bags of beans to her house, she brought the rest with her to check in on Clint. They hadn't hung out since before Vegas, and Kate wanted to make sure he was okay. She'd checked in with him on the net, but that didn't really count. There was a part of her that felt like a terrible friend. Hopefully, the coffee beans would make up for it. She knew that he ran the cafe here, and so she wanted to contribute.

The knock was loud. She wondered if he could hear it, so she knocked again.

It wasn't stealing so much as it was --- robin hooding. The places behind the doors had things, and in Starklandia they didn't. So they took them to live -- and in some cases thrive. It was as simple as that.

Heck, sometimes they even paid. When money was a direct possibility, anyway.

It was probably good she knocked twice, and louder the second time. It got Lucky barking and then Tony the Evil Goat making noises which got Clint's attention. So he made his way downstairs from the actual Apartment to what was now the defunct bit that had used to be the living room before whole ass buildings started appearing inside other ones.

Anyway. Tony lived there now, so there was no reclaiming it.

"Kate!" He said as soon as he opened the door. "Is that cof--hey! Tony! No!" He shoved a goat head out of his way and gave Kate an apologetic expression. "Wanna --come up?"

Surviving. And maybe thriving. Sounded pretty good when one thought about it that way. Kate had strong morals, but she also liked to eat. And she really liked coffee. She figured she'd done enough good in the world that this was simply... karma? She was scooting by for a bit until she could make herself useful again.

When Clint answered the door, Kate broke into a warm smile. It was nice to see him. And to see Lucky. And to see the goat. Kinda. Kate wasn't completely thrilled about goats, but hey. She liked animals and stuff.

"Sure, yeah. I brought you some coffee." She offered him the bags. She would have made the sign coffee, (one of the few signs she could do without having to think too much about it first) but her hands were holding bags of coffee.

Clint didn't need the sign, really. Not right now anyway. He was paying attention and he had his ears in, even if it seemed pointless when Tony the Ass was screaming about -- whatever it was goats screamed about. Clint didn't know. He wasn't the Goat Whisperer that Bucky was.

Still, he grinned, bright and boyish, and took the bags offa her hands before clomping up the stairs to the no-goat zone.

He was spoiled by his coffee shop (COFFEE.) and had sorta gotten used to espresso more than he was drip these days, but that didn't mean he didn't have a coffee maker or two-- courtesy of one of the first hotels he'd come across, and then the reappearance of his own loft apartment -- set up in the kitchen. "Wanna cup?" He asked, but that was a dumb rhetorical question, so he went ahead and started making some anyway, once he'd plopped the rest of the beans down on the counter. It was always nice to have supplies.

Kate just gave a look at the question. Did she want a cup? Really? She didn't have to say anything, though, as he started futzing around the kitchen making the coffee.

It was nice--felt somewhat normal--to be back in Clint's place, hopped up on some bare counter space while he started making the coffee. She pulled out her phone to check if she'd missed any messages, but of course she hadn't. She didn't have all that many people here who sent her messages. Then she turned her attention back to Clint to watch him working on the coffee pot.

"So. Remind me the story about the goat?"

What? He knew she wanted a cup. Just like he knew he wanted a cup. But it was polite to at least pretend to ask, wasn't it? He had manners. Sort of. Sometimes. When he felt like it.

He hit the brew button and then rifled around the cabinets for a few mugs because it was best to be prepared. Then he leaned up against the counter opposite Kate and crossed his arms, watching her check at her phone. Yeah. Probably no one was that popular in Starklandia to be getting a bunch of texts. Well, except maybe Stark himself. But Clint wasn't so sure about that, either.

"The goat?" He asked, amused. Seemed like a weird thing to forget about. Except yeah Kate's attention span wasn't always stellar. Neither was his, sometimes. "Tony. He's a scream-y little asshole. He's Bucky's. Just turned up one day, I think. But he had to have somewhere to go when we moved in, you know?"

Sort of.

Kate had been spending a lot of time with Danny lately, so she'd missed a bunch of things. At least, that's how it seemed. She felt out of the loop--even more out of the loop than showing up in Starklandia originally had made her feel.

"Tony. You named your goat after Tony Stark? Or Bucky did?" She asked, more amused than anything else. "Does he know? I bet he gets a kick out of that."

Well. Awkward. But there was no time like the present to be catching up, right?

Had to be true, since that was what was going on. Clearly. Clint waited until the coffee put was about halfway done before pouring two cups -- the drip drip drip of coffee that was still brewing hissing as it hit the hotplate burner. Burnt coffee smelled kind of good.

"Tony. Bucky did, because. You know. Tony's kinda loud and ....Tony-ish. He knows about it and seems to think it's funny. I'm pretty sure the goat is the town's deputy mayor now. That's what I heard last anyway."

The smell always reminded Kate of Clint. It was a very comforting smell. Clint was... Well, he was home to her in this strange place.

"I can get behind that. He's got my vote." Kate accepted the cup and lifted it to her lips, but then paused, frowning. "Do people even vote for a deputy mayor? I have no idea."

Any little kind of comfort helped, right?

Well, it wasn't as if Clint himself needed any comfort -- beyond the fact that sometimes this place was a little too small, a little too quiet, he generally liked it. It was hard not to, considering what he'd found here.

"I'm pretty sure they normally do? Er. Or is it like a vice president? You just vote for the first part and get the second? I dunno. It doesn't matter. Let's hope he never has to take the real Tony's day job." He shrugged, sipping at his coffee. "You should visit more."

Kate had yet to build a life for herself in Starklandia. She had Clint as a friend, sure, but didn't have a lot of other people around her. And there wasn't a whole lot to do to take her mind off the fact that she was fairly alone and isolated.

"I... I really have no idea. I don't think I've ever voted for a Mayor, anyway--at least, not consciously. I've never gone out of my way to learn about them. They must be on the ballot, though?" She sipped from her mug, then turned to look at him. "Yeah?"

Life was kinda weird here. Most people made friends with each other not really because of their proximity but because of shared experiences. It was the weird stuff like convention visits and pokemon-lands and stuff that really cemented relationships. At least, that's what Clint thought.

"Well. There wasn't any voting opportunity here at all, so that solves that, I guess," Clint said with a little shrug. It just was what it was here - Tony'd sorta just taken over because no one else had and clint most certainly didn't want the job so it seemed fine to him. "But you should probably think about voting at home. It's apparently important. Wait. Are you old enough to vote?" And then he paused and lifted his shoulder in an easy shrug. "Yeah. Obviously."

Kate gave a scoff and smacked him playfully on the arm. "Rude! Just because I'm not a fossil doesn't mean I can't vote!" She shook her head, then turned her attention to her coffee once more.

"I'll take it under consideration, then." She sipped. She was glad she'd come to visit today.

"Now who's rude?" Clint asked, nursing his arm in a very theatrical sort of manner. It hadn't hurt but he could whine about it anyway. "How should I know? I didn't think ten year olds could vote." Digging in deeper was obviously the only answer here.

"Sure, sure. Take it under consideration. Maybe show up when Bucky's around one of these days so he doesn't keep believing you're my imaginary friend."

"Well, of course you think I'm ten. That's what dinosaurs do. They think everyone's so much younger than they actually are." Kate stuck her tongue out at him, but it was hard to hold the grin off of her face.

"Maybe that's my devious plan," she added, lifting her mug for a sip. "To make him think you've gone completely nuts."

"Dinosaurs also eat people," Clint pointed out. "I saw it once. In a documentary. And in the Savage Land. But mostly the documentary." Which was Jurassic Park, and not at all a documentary, but who was really keeping track?

"And that's rude. Why would you do that? He already knows I'm nuts. He deals with me on a daily basis." Well. Maybe not nuts. Impulsive? Certainly. But that was working out pretty well for them.

"Yes." Kate said, seriously. "Those are the only things that dinosaurs do. The two things. Eat people, and think everyone is younger than they actually are." She sipped again from her mug. Coffee was the best.

"Well, then my plan is working. See? Ta da. I'm pretty impressive. I'm succeeding at a plan I just came up with right now."

Clint nodded rather sagely. Yes. That was exactly what dinosaurs did. It was fact and in the dinosaur bible both, obviously.

"Sounds more like coincidence to me," Clint said, clearly unimpressed with Kate's playful ego.

"Well, it would. That's the brilliance of it. It's very subtle." Kate gulped from her mug, finishing off the coffee in there, then jumped down off the countertop and left the cup in the sink.

"I'm gonna head home. I've got cleaning and laundry to do."

"Oh." Clint said, a little surprised maybe, but supposing it'd just been a little pop in he supposed she probably had other stuff to do. Laundry and all. "Okay. Well. Don't be a stranger. And maybe take the back. Avoid the mayor."

"Back way out. Got it." Kate gave him a smile and then turned to let herself out. "And same goes for you, man. You know how to find me, too." She glanced back at him over her shoulder.

"I'm getting rusty. Need practice. You have arrows?" She asked, one hand on the doorknob. "We'll have to keep each other in shape."

Clint just offered a look, like he couldn't possibly believe that someone was asking him whether or not he had arrows of all things. "Yeah, I've got arrows. Duh." He waved her on then. "We'll do some target practice later. Get outta here. Your laundry is waiting."

"Good." Kate gave him one more grin. "I'll see you later. With clean pants." And she let herself out.
