Steve could appreciate people contributing to a blossoming society, those who shared what they had and went out looking for things that everyone could use. It made Steve feel like he could trust these people even if they were from another world, they shared values and that set him at ease standing there with her. Besides what was more wholesome than doing laundry together? His own clothes weren't that dirty, but Tony's always seemed to have greasy stains from whatever work he'd been doing and took a little extra scrubbing.
"I appreciate that, especially the coffee machine," Steve said with a grin. "I think it's lifted spirits around here a lot, even if maybe it wasn't brought here in the most honest of circumstances."
But then, like things were prone to do, they went a little sideways. Steve had smiled at her losing patience with the laundry and had moved to help her again, only to be assured she had it and he wasn't the type to insist on helping when it wasn't desired. She was an adult and could see to her own laundry. Or she could until things went further sideways. She was in the river and then she was under it and Steve moved fast as he pulled his shirt up over his head and tossed it onto the bank before launching into a shallow dive.
Steve grabbed her around the middle, pulling her up so her head and his own broke the surface before swimming her back to where he could stand. "Are you alright?"
