Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:barbara gordon, galen marek (sw)

WHO: Galen Marek and Barbara Gordon.
WHAT: It's hot, and Galen seeks council.
WHERE: Barbara's place.
WHEN: Wednesday Morning.
RATING: Low.

It was hot. So unbelievably hot. To such a degree, that Galen had thought about going back to his sick days and find a cool spot in his house to lay down, just like a lizard he had been compared to previously. Instead, Galen took to having his Pokemon come with him, and seek out a friend. Friend was still a weird term for Galen to get use to, but it was still something he was striving for. Now having more friends, as was considering the dancing and the drinking with Miles a branch into friendship.

Looking up at the direction of the sun, Galen squinted some. How did it get so hot so suddenly. This was the worst.

Lucario and Galen walked side by side towards Barbara's place through town. He was actually taking notice of people, and recognizing more of them than previously had - possibly even waving to them or greeted as he passed by. The disgust in his stomach still regarding this. It really took a long time to rebound from being so hard up on the dark side of things. Not that he fully released it, just merely embraced the light side more to acknowledge he had more to learn.

Approaching the door of Barbara's, Galen didn't wait a moment before knocking on it. "Hey, it's me." He called out. "Please tell me you have something cool to drink. It's insanely hot out here."

It was hot, hotter than it had been since she'd arrived here - but she supposed that was summer for you, always hotter than you really wanted it to be. But she supposed she would live. She was just pushing open the last of the windows when she heard Galen at the door calling out his arrival.

It was times like these that she wished she was a witch, like some of the others in town so she could just create some sort of never ending drink the way they had seemed to for the party, or even better cool things down because this was going to become unbearable very quickly. Still she made her way to the door to let him in, hoping that with the windows open things would cool off.

"Hey, come on in, I've got some water through here." She offered inviting him inside. Even Midnight was out of the sun, normally the pokemon liked to lay in a warm patch of sun warming herself during the day before she was more active in the night time hours, but today she was hiding, no doubt trying to keep cool. And Barbara couldn't blame her, if she knew of a cool place to hide out she'd have been there too.

"How are things?" She asked him as she poured them both a glass in the hopes that it would help them cool down some. "It looked like you were having a good time at the party last weekend." She teased him, because she'd seen his dancing and it had been.... well it had been something alright, but she'd liked seeing him having fun, being goofy like that, it was a nice change from the stoic sort of boy he'd been when he first showed up.

The door opened him and his pokemon entered immediately to get out from under the sun. "Took you long enough." Galen muttered thoroughly happy to be back in the shade of a building. Looking around though, it wasn't any cooler than his place, but hers was much better looking. More organized and with more things.

Did he need things?

"Water would be good." Lucario barked a bit in agreement as it went and sniffed around making himself comfortable. Galen only half watched his Pokemon while he accepted the water. "Things are fine. I've been making steady progress on the house and fixing it. I sh-" Then he realized what she commented on. The dancing. It took Galen's mind to pilfer through the memories of that night and meeting Miles to remember the dancing. A red tinge in his cheeks he looked away drinking the water. "I don't know what you're talking about." Play it cool. Dancing didn't happen and things were fine.

Barbara rolled her eyes at him when he complained about how long it took her to get to the door. She was going to have to figure out something to do about this heat though, a fan maybe - she could figure something like that out, that was definitely within her skill set. Sure one day of heat wouldn't kill her, but if it went on for too long well - that was another story.

She let him come in to the house, it was fairly open - her room lofted over the kitchen with the extra room off to one side, it really was too big for just her, but after she'd moved in with Dick and Peter she hadn't been able to make herself leave. So there she was in a house that was way too big - but the addition of her room had been a nice way to make it all feel a little bit more at home there - a little bit less like she was just a mess for being there still.

Pouring them both a glass she watched him, begin to explain that he'd been making progress on his house, getting things fixed up again before he suddenly realized that she'd seen his dancing display over the weekend.

Handing off the water, Barbara kept a straight face while he tried to deny that he knew anything about it. "No?" She wondered, "You sure about that?" She leaned over the counter, elbows on the tabletop as she looked at him with a grin on her face. "Because it was pretty spectacular."

There was a scowl as he whistled over to Lucario was was wandering about. Holding his hand out he used the Force to pull the pitcher of ward to him so he could refill his glass of water. Filling the glass he held it out to Lucario who came over and took the glass to drink. For the brief moment, while he tended to his Pokemon the scowl vanished from his face. But then his attention was back to Barbara who was content on teasing him about his dancing.

"You're a delusional woman." Galen countered as he still felt his cheeks warm. It was just the heat in this place, not that he was embarrassed. That was ridiculous.

"You would be correct that I am spectacular, but absolutely incorrect that I did anything that resembled dancing." Galen took the glass back from Lucario and looked to him. "Go bug Midnight." He told Lucario, and with that he was off to go find his friend. Turning his attention to Barbara he felt himself get a little shy about his next question.

"Can I ask you something?"

Barbara laughed as Galen scowled at her, enjoying being able to tease him a bit more than she might have done before his recent discoveries about himself and his past. It was a good change for him she thought, it'd help him in the long run to know where he came from, and maybe change what he thought he could be.

"I don't know, I have a photographic memory." She told him. "And I would never forget moves like that." She teased while Lucario drank as well before Galen was telling her that he hadn't done anything like dancing.

She trusted Lucario would find Midnight easily, she'd found somewhere quiet and cool to lay during the heat of the day and Barbara couldn't blame her in the slightest.

A little surprised at the serious turn that Galen took Barbara sobered up and raised her eyebrows at him. "Yeah of course, what's up?"

Scowl. "Fine. I danced." Crossing his arms, Galen hopped to sit up on top of the counter disapproving of the whole situation where she was calling him out on the dancing. It was very unlike him to start with and here he was admitting it to Barbara. "You shouldn't spy and peep on people. It's very unbecoming." Galen followed up with, despite the small sly smile on his lips.

He'd admit, he liked the woman. She was kind.

Then she got serious. That was good that she was right there with him on the importance of his question. "Hypothetically, of course." Galen gave a pointed stare to not press him on it, before his gaze softened slightly. "How would a person.. approach someone else they might be interested in. Especially if they're a stubborn, know it all." He looked away as if he wasn't sure how to phrase things. "Y'know, hypothetically."

She laughed when he agreed that he had in fact danced, "It looked like you were having fun," She told him, just to try and smooth over his annoyance as he pulled himself up to sit on the counter top. "I hate to break it to you, but there wasn't anyone at the party who didn't see you, I don't think it counts as spying at that point." Besides it had been nice to see him acting goofy for a change, something a little bit more like his own age and not the overly dour and vaguely threatening person she'd known him to be up to that point.

But for now - there was apparently something more serious on his mind and Barbara could let up if she thought there was something important on the line.

She leaned back against another counter a little as he spoke, listening to him work out his hypothetical question realizing that of course he meant himself though who exactly he wanted to approach was another matter all together but it was pretty obvious both from the phrasing as well as the way he'd slowly worked his way through asking the question that he didn't really want to get into details.

"Hypothetically," She began rather pointedly, "I think the best way to do something like that might be to just start spending more time with that person. So you can get to know them better, and they can get to know you better too." She didn't want to shove him into the deep end after all, starting slow and easy felt like the best advice she could give. "Sharing a meal together is often a good indicator that you're interested in something a little more than friendship." She added.

Galen scoffed at Barbara. How annoying. She was quite annoying on these topics, but he had learned already to just simply ignore her regarding it all. Though she was correct, he was having a pretty good time with Miles. The liquid encouragement did wonders for that. Though he wasn't about to accept any of it - so Galen just sort of huffed at her about her comments.

But she went into his actual question with the seriousness he wanted of it. What she had to offer was sound enough. Naturally he was talking about himself, but he was so clever in disguising his intention she was never going to figure it out. Galen was so smart, but that also lead to him to think of something to do with his brilliance.

Looking to Barbara, he let his eyes soften just enough to stare at her. "So take her out to a meal.." Galen muttered softly while watching her face. Then he just came out and said it. "Barbara, would you like to join me for dinner tonight?" Then he let it simmer for her to do as she wished with that statement. He paused, and let the thought deep simmer. Galen paused to allow her to blush over his advance.

Then - Starkiller smiled a devious smile. One to show his asking her out to dinner was just a joke. "I'm kidding." Galen shook his head. "There's a different person." He muttered before glancing away some.

She did like getting him going like that, but Barbara didn't push too much - she was happy with the small victory of his huff of annoyance. They'd get to a point eventually where she'd really lay into him but she was going to give him time to get to that point.

As for his question, it was an interesting one - not something she'd have expected from him if she was being honest. But she was glad he was thinking about things like that, it meant he was willing to make connections there with them rather than spending all of his time focused on getting back home as his sole mission. It was good she thought.

"Yeah, it'll give you guys a good excuse to spend time together and it makes it easier to talk when you've got something to distract yourself with." She added.

And then he asked her to dinner and well - Barbara's eyes went wide for just a moment before she scoffed. "I'm not a stubborn know it all!" She said frowning at him. Okay maybe she was a bit, but that didn't mean he was allowed to say anything like that about her. And more than that - "I don't really think that's a -"

But before she could try and let him down easily a smile creeped across his face that she understood the meaning of even before he'd told her that he'd just been kidding when he'd asked in the first place. She rolled her eyes at him. "Well good because this-" She pointed back and forth between the two of them. "Would never happen." He was too young for one, and for two he seemed to fit himself more into the space that was meant for a brother than anything else. So yeah, definitely not.

"But ask them to dinner, ask them about their life, the things they like, see what you have in common."

Starkiller knew she liked setting him off. You didn't need to Force to sense that, with the smile that plastered across her face every time she did such. Which Galen should had known better than to let her get under his skin but there was part of him that actually liked it. Someone at least cared enough to do such.

Plus there was times like this, where she actually was smart. Galen would acknowledge that much. She had this ability to guide his thoughts correctly, and sure he thought Kenobi was much wiser in a lot of ways, he knew that the Jedi wouldn't be able to help him during his romantic endeavors. Especially with who was on his mind.

Just as he figured, she went tumbling over her words. Just the way he thought she would. It was nice to have the upper hand on the situation and deriving a response. Which brought laughter to the young man. She was too funny.

"First of all." Galen looked to her more with that good ole fashion Starkiller charm. "You're too old for me to have an interest in." She wasn't but, the jab at it was perfect. "Secondly, you're far too annoying." He teased which bringing the pitch of his voice up some. "Oh you have to do good Starkiller. You can't do that, that's wrong Starkiller. Nooooo that's stealing Starkiller." He rolled his eyes some as he leaned back towards her direction. "I know it's heartbreaking, but we just could never be." Though the smile on his face was quite playful.

"But regardless, your advice is sound." He nodded. "So thank you, I will try what you suggest."

Yeah, definitely a younger brother, the way he seemed all to pleased with himself at having thrown her off for a moment firmly sealed that sort of space for himself. She just shook her head at him as he tried to play like he was the one coming up with reasons why they wouldn't work as if she hadn't just said that herself.

"Trust me, if one of us is annoying, it's you." She told him wrinkling her nose as she pulled a little bit of a face in his direction. Maybe disproving her own point, but as far as Barbara was concerned she was right, so it didn't matter whether or not she teased too.

"So," She said after a moment, when he'd thanked her for the advice but didn't seem eager to tell her much more. "Are you going to tell me who you're actually interested in?" She wondered, and maybe just a little bit curious to know who Galen had thought he might jive with. The change was still new in him, but she liked seeing the way it was bringing him out in different ways, the way it softened him in some places.

It was a good place for them. Galen knew she had lost some people from the town, and with those people gone she didn't have that social network so Galen was happy to fill the role a bit. Not that he'd admit it.

"Me? I am hardly annoying." Galen challenged. "I'm bred and embodied perfection." Picking the empty glass of water up, he poured more water into the glass for himself. The smile on his face remained as they verbally sparred. "I know when you get as old as you, your memory slips. Good thing you have someone like me to watch out for you." With that he slid off the counter so he could face her without stretching himself weirdly.

A slow drink of his water he thought for a moment. He could obviously not tell her, and keep it to himself and if it failed she'd know no different and wouldn't have sympathy for him and that would be much better. That was a thing he didn't want, or need. "Leia." Galen blurted out. "She's stubborn, bullheaded, and opinionated." There was a scrunch in his face, then he looked to her. "She's fearless.." A roll in his eyes at that thought but a smile crept on his face. "She's fascinating."

She snorted when he called himself the embodiment of perfection before he was teasing her about her memory. "Oh stop that," She reached for a kitchen towel and tossed it at his face laughing at his teasing. It didn't have that same sort of tinge of meanness that his insults had the first time the'd talked and so she could brush them off easily enough. "God, this conversation is proof enough that you're annoying."

Though Barbara had been ready for him to hold on to his secret, she couldn't help but be pleased when he actually told her who he had in mind. And she grinned as he told her about the girl that had caught his attention. Doing her best not to grin too widely as he called the other girl stubborn and opinionated like he was complaining before it morphed it something admiring. "Sounds like she's got a lot going for her then."

It was going to be interesting to see whether or not Galen and Leia could make something work if she was as stubborn as he seemed to think she was, two stubborn people coming together? It could work, but it could also crash and burn spectacularly. "You should tell her some of that," She said after a moment, "Not the stubborn bullheaded part. But fearless and fascinating? I bet she'd love to hear that."

Taking the towel that bounced of his face, he smirked some. It was truth, his tone had warmed up to the woman. She was something different, or special? Well, she was his smirking idiot that was incredibly annoying. Not that he'd allow another to fuck with her. "Me? How dare you." Galen scrunched his face at her more. "You're so obnoxious that you make me make this face." He pointed right at his own face. "Stop being so terrible." Then he laughed winding the towel up and snapping it at her, close but not close enough to hit her.

"She's okay." Galen scoffed some. More like he wasn't sure why he was into her. In fact, Starkiller was at a lost on what it was that was driving him towards her to start with. For those exact reasons, he should have hated being near her but she was just, her, and Galen was into it. Which was also infuriating.

"Why would I tell her some of it, and not all of it." Starkiller questioned. "She is bullheaded. She's laser focused like a bull chasing a target." He made a face. "There is so steering her from her ill informed, or inconceivable ideals." He scoffed. "She's like you in being annoying like that." Using the Force, he spun his glass of water on the counter. "I don't get why I'm so interested.." He commented. She was beautiful. There was that too.

"Don't you dare!" She said her tone amused and laughing even as she warned him off snapping her with the towel she'd tossed at him. "You're the worst! Everyone would agree with me, you're the annoying one." This was - well Barbara didn't really know what to say it was. It was what she'd wished she could have had with her own brother, the kind of relationship one might have hoped for with a sibling. And her she was finding something like that with a boy from an entirely different world.

They were from two completely different places, but she guessed maybe they'd both been looking for something, a family in some small ways. And here they were now. Galen asking her for relationship advice while she teased him about what a brat he could be.

"Trust me," Barbara said shaking her head, "Girls don't want to hear that they're stubborn, or find out they're being compared to bulls." She added. "You could tell her that she's focused, or something like that." She offered if he really wanted to say something about those kinds of qualities that he seemed to find himself drawn to. At least he seemed like he was drawn to him the way he mentioned them. "Sometimes being interested in someone doesn't really make logical sense, it's just something that happens."

Galen smirked as she warned him. He snapped it at her a second time. "You made the fatal mistake on throwing a weapon at me, Barbara!" Another snap in the air. He was truly too good at it. "What?! Are you serious. Just the fact you would try and get them on your side would make you ten times more annoying." Galen made a face at her as if she was insane. "You'd become 'Babsy the Annoying'." He shook his head. "It's official, you lost your mind. I can't associate with crazies." Galen tossed his hands up in the air as if there was nothing to be done.

Starkiller wouldn't acknowledge it, but she was family. He never knew his blood relation, but he had this feeling that Barbara wouldn't throw him off a cliff like what he considered his first family, his master. This was much better.

"Pft." Galen groaned some. "You women creatures are so picky." Leaning on the counter some using the same towel he used as a weapon previously as a pillow. "Why do I have to compliment and, and..." He waved his hand some "Whatever." It made little sense. Not that when he complimented Leia the first time, did it really do anything. "This is dumb. I don't even know why I brought this up. I shouldn't even bother." He groaned. Failing before even trying.

Barbara held up a finger at him when Galen snapped the towel at her a second time, ready to grab it if he tried for a third - sure he was good at the action but she had her own skills if she needed to use them. "That's what you think," She scoffed, laughing at the ridiculous name he came up with for her. "It's too late now, everyone has already seen you come over - your reputation is tied up in mine now."

It was a silly game, but all things considered - that's what they needed these days. A little bit of silliness in a world that so often was too much to really think about. It was good to be able to do things like this even if it was kind of ridiculous.

"Don't call her a woman creature either," Barbara added shaking her head at him. She huffed softly. "You don't have to compliment her at all if you don't want to." Barbara told him easily as he seemed to grumble about the idea of the advice she was offering him. "It's nice sometimes though when you like someone to tell them some of the reasons you like them. It helps to warm them up to you." She explained.

"No of course you should bother, this is good!" She told him. "You'll have a good time, it's good to do things like this, even when they don't work out the way you want it's part of figuring things out." Because she knew that could happen too, she'd been turned down before, she'd made a fool of herself, it wasn't fun, but it was part of all of this.

The next warning made him laugh, a real laugh. Sure he could of snapped it again, but he'd wait. Let her feel safe. "Ugh! You're right! You brought me down to your commoner levels by association!" Then he feigned emotion as if his world was over. "What will I do with all the people in this town judging me!?" Yes, this was the relationship him and Barbara will have from now on. Someone he could feel comfortable with despite his reservations. Sure, he thought she'd leave him or betray him, but for the now - he'd just enjoy it while he could. He was allowed this much at least, right?

"All of you," He pointed to her and around the room as if it were filled with other women. "Women like creatures are incredibly strange." He shook his head. "I do not understand the whole lot of you." Galen complained, but he came down from his soap box of confusion. "But I'll try it." Starkiller commented.

If it didn't work out? Well, Galen would have to swallow his tongue and choke to death on it so he didn't have to look at anyone who knew of his failure. Failure was never an option, and he just had to push harder for success so it wasn't a failure. Right? "I'm not sure I like this whole trial by fire thing you're talking about..."

Barbara laughed when he complained, and lifted her hands up in a shrug. "It's your own fault. You did this to yourself." She told him like it was out of her hands. "You're just gonna have to make peace with the fact that you're a weirdo now if I'm one." She told him with a laugh, like it was as simple as that, unworried about his name calling or anything else - happy to just tease and be silly for a little while longer.

Snorting Barbara shook her head. "That's another thing you probably shouldn't do." She told him, "Comparing all women to one another, we're all unique, we all have our own motivations and things. What works for one, won't work for another." She told him. "Just take your time with her, get to know her as a person, what she likes how to best relate to her."

"Trail by fire is a really good way to put it." She admitted. "You're lucky you never had to do anything like high school. That's a real trial by fire." She told him shaking her head. "All sorts of drama about who asked who to the dance, who broke up with who." She shook her head at those kinds of memories - truthfully she'd been apart from all of that, Batgirl kept her too busy for a lot of normal things.

But she had heard about all the drama.

"Whoa. Don't put this on me. It's obviously your fault. I'm the innocent one here." Galen proclaimed urgently. At this moment, not having to worry about how he felt or holding himself to a standard that was too difficult to maintain, which he could do if he wanted, Starkiller was perfectly content in this very moment with Barbara.

"Uuuuugh." Galen complained loudly. "See more rules! You women and all the rules we have to follow." He eyed her some with a frown. "It's a wonder any of you can claim a suitor of your own, with all these dos and do nots." Though he smirked to let his joke simmer a moment. He was appreciative of her advice, especially if it allowed him to have a better experience with Leia. That was truly what was important after all.

"What's a..." He paused to really focus on her face so he could think of the word. "High school?" School was a term he knew, not that he was taught any true education from Vader anyway. Just the most efficient way to kill another man or especially a Jedi.

"Sure you are," Barbara grinned at him, without arguing about whether or not he was as innocent as he wanted to believe himself to be - that wasn't really important, what was important was the fact that they were doing this at all.

Silently she raised an eyebrow at him when he did exactly the thing she'd warned him of, complaining about rules and things. "You know this is probably why so many women prefer the company of other women." She told him, teasing mostly, though the point remained - she certainly saw the appeal in limiting herself to one gender at times, But then every now and then there'd be someone who came along, who caught her attention and she was right back in it.

She wrinkled her nose at him, shaking her head. "Don't do this sort of thing to her, unless your goal is to just be annoying." She added as he smirked at her, realizing he'd been teasing.

"A high school, it's part of the public education system where I'm from. You start in Elementary school, then middle school, and high school. It's divided up by age groups, So high school is older teenagers, you'd be in high school right now actually." She explained.

They are both seemingly enjoying the banter, and Galen probably look back on this moment later and think on it fondly. While Barbara grinned at him about his innocent act, he returned the smile. This was comfort right here. Believing you were eighty percent sure, this one person wasn't going to backstab you. Maybe ninety.

Galen tossed the towel back at the older woman. "Are you saying you gave up on us men?" Galen asked. That would be an interesting factoid about the woman he didn't know. "Regardless of any of that. People can be attracted to who they want to be, pretty much." Sure there was some limits on that statement, that there was quite the asterisks on that. Somethings you just didn't do, even the Sith knew that. Evidentially kidnapping was fine though.

School. Education? "That... sounds complicated and pointless." Of course the man who spent his whole youth being trained to be a ruthless killer would think that. What did things like most education do for him in the long run. Well, previously. The thought crossed his mind at this very moment. All he really was good at was killing and fighting. In this place, where there was no room for soldiers, what good did that really provide him.

"Is school, fun?" He questioned audibly.

Barbara caught the towel easily when Galen tossed it at her, folding it rather than snapping at him the way she was tempted to and laying it on the counter top before she shook her head. "Not forever, no." She told him. "But sometimes I am tempted." Not just because the men in her life could be idiots, but she'd met some women that she thought she might have worked well with. Dinah maybe. If she could ever get her friend to stay in one place long enough for something like that.

"Yes, they can." She agreed, pleased to see that Galen thought that way. She might not have been surprised if it turned out he wasn't okay with something like that, all things considered.

Laughing when he called school pointless and complicated she shrugged. "I guess it might seem that way to someone who has never done it before. It just the way we do things where I'm from. When you're about five or six you start elementary school, and then after about 6 years you move on to middle school where you spend three years and then on to high school for four more years before you graduate. From there some people choose to go to college, to study things more in depth." It was strange to think of a place that didn't have some form of school, but maybe where Galen was from there was school he'd just been denied the chance to go. It was hard to say really.

"It can be." She nodded, "A lot of people make friends there they keep for the rest of their lives." She told him. Not that she had done that, sure she'd met Dick when she was still in high school, but did that count? She wasn't sure. He didn't go to school with her. "There are clubs and things you can take part in, and dances and sports." All things that she hadn't really done either, but normal kids did. They had fun with them.

Watching her fold the towel, he had to mess with her. Inching his finger forward and up, the towel jumped off the counter against her face. Okay, that was cheating. "Y'know, Sith believe in acting on feelings and temptation. It derives our powers. The good, the bad." Galen shrugged. "It's what you do with that power is the question." That was what Starkiller was learning now.

"So, I should let you know when I meet a ever so charming lady or man?" Galen inquired. "Because, whoever it is, they're going to need patience to deal with you." He winked at her with a smirk.

She would be correct, that Starkiller was denied the opportunity for education. Only being taught what was deemed useful for his skill sets regarding his hunting and killing of Jedi. Most of his training in any sort of education came from his droid PROXY that was the only gift from Vader. A great gift at that. Programmed to make sure he tried and killed him regularly. "I don't understand it." Starkiller shook his head. "All appropriate skills can be taught in the field where you can learn more life saving lessons than in any classroom." He frowned.

"I don't get it."

Catching the towel after it seemingly jumped up off the counter under it's own power, Barbara gave Galen a clearly unimpressed sort of look at his antics but shrugged. "Yeah, power is an interesting thing, you can always use it for good, but just like there's the option for that, you can use it for ill too." She shrugged. "Sometimes temptations and things like that - they're nice to think about, but you don't act on them, it can be a greater show of power when you don't give in than if you did."

Rolling her eyes at him when he teased her about if he should let her know about any potential prospects. "I'd say the same for anyone who might catch your eye as well." She teased him with a smirk of her own.

"Where I'm from we tend to start with a basic education for most people and from that foundation some will go into field training with a trade job or something like that, and others will go to college and keep working on their education." She explained. "Most careers that people have require a certain level of schooling. And school helps with other things too." She told him. "It helps you figure out how to deal with people, how to work in groups, and how to work with deadlines and things like that."

"Power should be used.." Galen stopped and considered it. See the thing was this. He wasn't sure fully. What should power, or most importantly his power be used for? Saying power should be used for the forces of good for all the things that are good was naive and foolish, right? There was never going to be a world where there would be no evil. So where should power be directed. The internal strife probably was evident on his face.

"Pft." Galen waved off his thoughts and went to the point of - "I'm a catch for anyone. They just have to be able to keep up with me." He commented. Starkiller needed someone was able to keep up with him in every way, otherwise it would just not work.

As Barbara went on about the education system of her world, she was met with dead and confused eyes. All of this made little sense to the young man. "That," He shook his head. "I don't know what to do with that. It sounds so rudimentary and pointless." Of course this was coming from the guy who was basically home schooled.

"Sure, power should be used." Barbara agreed, because she understood that, power that you didn't ever use was pointless, if you had power you had a responsibility to use it - it's just that people often had different ideas about how power should be used. "It's all a matter of what you do with it though. I mean I can use the power I have in my world and create something that only benefits myself. I built something that could very easily have been used to make a bomb - which could have made me a lot of money, government contracts, things like that. But I know how something like that would be used, I changed the plans when I realized what it was, and I used the same plans and created a clean energy generator." She told him, using an example from her own life that she hoped would be easier for him to understand rather than talking about it vague ways. "So the machine I built now, helps to create clean energy for part of the city where I live. It helps the environment and it has created a lot of new jobs for people. You see?"

She just grinned when he assured her that he was a catch, that someone would just have to keep up with him, rather than the other way around. And sure he was different and he needed someone who saw that and liked those kinds of qualities, she wasn't sure that translated directly, but she let him have it.

Laughing when he said that the education system where she was from sounded pointless. "I'll be honest, it sounds like what you've done from where you're from would be pointless to me too." She shrugged. "We come from different worlds, so what we have works for us, it sounds like they might not cross over from one place to the other." Still she thought there were bits and pieces of both ways of life that could be a benefit if they managed to trade back and forth.

When Barbara started talking, it dawned on him that he had left his statement unfinished. Right. Talking with other people. "Right." Galen commented while he listened to her story about her power at hand. This raised a question in his head that he needed to know now. Most people here had something extraordinary about them. This sister figure of his, tried extra hard to seem incredibly normal.

"You..." He straightened himself some. "What is it you do?" Galen asked probably for the first time. "Other than that machine you created. That does not sound like your normal gig." That was when he felt out with the Force, not to read her thoughts or make her talk - but to get her feelings on the surface. "You're hiding something from me." Starkiller called out. "Tell me.

"Valid." Starkiller would concede to. There was differences between the two worlds, and this was just another among the many. Though, he much rather his worlds compared to her one Earth. "We'll just have to educate each other as time goes on." Starkiller commented.

She was very nearly surprised when he just agreed simply with her story about using power, and then he began asking questions. And Barbara wasn't sure how much to tell him - because she'd done a good job since she arrived of keeping her alter ego to herself. Dick and Jason had known of course, but she hadn't shared with anyone else and she hadn't felt like she needed to either.

"Well I used to do some computer programming, I was paralyzed for a while." She explained, hoping that this would be enough for him. "I couldn't walk so I started working with computers. I don't do a ton of that anymore, but I've still got the ability to do it." She admitted lifting her shoulders in a slight shrug. "The plans for the machine came from that point in my life." She explained, she'd seen the designs when she'd gone digging and they just stuck in her memory and she was able to recreate it later and make it something for good.

"I have kind of moved past a lot of that, I've been trying to be more ... involved?" She tried to find the right words to talk about her life without revealing too much. "So I don't do as much with computing as I used to, and I was going back to school before I started working on a political campaign." She shrugged. "There's not a lot about my life that's normal, so it's hard to really say one thing is what I do."

Barbara didn't know why she was so eager to keep her identity hidden, probably years and years of keeping it secret, not even telling her own father who she was. Her brother had found out and that had gotten her handed over to the Joker for a second time, she didn't think she could chance that again, even here in this place where people were so open about their alter egos.

She did smile a little though when he agreed that their worlds were different. "Yes, there's probably a lot we can learn from each other." She agreed, her world seemed painfully normal compared to his, but his seemed so much colder than hers. There could be a lot that they exchanged in time.

Galen listen to her story and how it panned out, and the thing was simple. She was lying. Well maybe not lying, but he could feel more than what she was telling. Not that it was painted on her face or anything. Because she was incredibly skilled at hiding this secret, as it was old as time with her. Which was also incredibly interesting to Starkiller.

"How did you get paralyzed?" Galen asked as he used the Force to pull him a chair to sit on, so they could continue talking about these items.

"Computers are interesting, for a brainy type." Galen muttered. "I just..." He stared at her. Yeah he just did things his way and it involved little finesse in the realm of computers or hacking. He just mostly just crushed and destroyed everything the came across.

"Well." Starkiller muttered. "You are.." He looked for the words. "Hiding something." He glanced at the counter as his hand drummed on the counter top as if he was in thought. "You know, that is quite the one way street if you think about it. I shared intimate details of my life and past." He looked to her with mock hurt eyes.

"It was -" She started and stopped, even now it was hard to talk about, but the way she was paralyzed was no secret, just a bad memory. "My dad he's the police commissioner in the city where I'm from," She explained, "We have a lot of criminals there, they don't stay locked up for long no matter what the police do, and one day when I was home on my own one of those criminals came to the house - probably hoping my dad would be there and instead he found me. And he shot me." She told him honestly. "He left me for dead, hoping that my dad would find me like that. I didn't die though, I survived it - but like I said - I was paralyzed because of it. They didn't think I would ever walk again." But her dad had been stubborn, "Dad took me half way across the world to get a surgery that would never have been allowed back home on the smallest chance that I could walk again." And that had put her short lived career as Oracle on hold, she'd been too busy focusing on relearning how to walk.

"I've always liked them, especially when I felt trapped in that chair." Again the truth - she had thought she might just lose her mind when she'd been paralyzed, stuck like that after feeling so free as Batgirl. But she'd found a different kind of escape there, a different sort of freedom and she could still help, just in a different way than she had before. "I'm just not certain that they're the sort of thing I want to devote myself to all the time." She could have made Gordon Clean Energy her full time job, devoted herself to the company, but she'd given it away - let her best friend take charge of it because she trusted her completely. And Barbara knew herself well enough to know she'd never be able to give herself to anything as much as she should as long as she was Batgirl.

What she didn't expect was for him to suggest that she was hiding something. And yes of course she was - she was keeping back a part of herself because she had to. You never told anyone who you were without the mask, it had been the first lesson she'd gotten from Bruce. They knew one another but well - things had always been a little complicated for the Batfamily. But everyone else? They didn't need to know. It wasn't safe. Even here.

"I think I've shared some pretty intimate details from my life and past with you too." She replied, fixing him with a level look.

The story she shared though about getting paralyzed was a painful one. While listening to it, Galen couldn't help the fury that built up in his chest. Barbara was someone close and dear to him, and how could something happen to her.

That single thought snapped the fury into confusion.

She was near and dear. Galen's fury about what happened to her and the pain she went through at an earlier point in her life turned to something soft and almost confused. As he was figuring things out in his own head. That was something he would have to work out in his mind, and figure out what it could possibly mean. That was something he wasn't even sure he was ready to figure out on his own. He'd let it slide mostly.

Barbara was incredibly smart, and that was useful knowledge if something came to rise that needed that type of intelligence, because as he stated - he was a smash and destroy type. He was about the realm of destruction. Though with that level look he received, his eyes narrowed reading her. There was something about it, and he knew he struck a chord. One that she wasn't going to budge on. Well, yet. Galen smiled a soft smile and stood up. Glancing to the back of the house he whistled loudly for Lucario. Walking around the counter, he just approached Barbara and hugged her firmly. Something sweet possibly. "I like you. You're okay." Then he departed from the hug just as quickly.

Raising his hand to signify his departure. "Thank you for your guidance, Barbara." He said with a smile. "I'll be sure to tell you how it explodes in my face, but I now have preparations to make."

A part of her expected him to push, to demand that she tell him more - but he didn't do that, in fact he didn't press for more at all instead he looked like he was getting ready to leave, but instead came around the counter and rather than anything she might have expected he hugged her. It was brief, but it was a hug, a real one and Barbara felt a kind of sentiment that she hadn't fully been ready for and just when she'd been ready to hug him as well he was pulling back.

"I like you too, Galen." She said and rather than let him get away with that kind of quick hug and release she pulled him into another one, still quick and without lingering, but it felt important to her. And she gave him a firm squeeze in return. "Even when you can be annoying," She teased as she stepped back again.

She smiled when he thanked her and promised to tell her how it all went if it ended poorly. "I'll be fine, just trust yourself and have fun." She told him honestly. "Good luck!"

The hug from Barbara caught Starkiller off guard for a moment, before he touched her side lightly to reciprocate the feelings a second time. Sure, it wasn't very in his nature to show a nurturing love like that. Though, this specific woman had managed to put a soft spot right in his chest, to say the least.

"Pft" Turning from her as Lucario barked at Barbara also. "You're the annoying one, Babs." Starkiller decided to final use her nickname while waving his hand at her over his shoulder.
