WHO: Aziraphale and John Crichton
WHAT: Exploring the town a bit more
WHERE: Around Town
WHEN: Today

Starklandia was a strangely quaint sort of place, just as Crowley had said it was. And with no manner of escape seemed to be working, and Aziraphale had tried again and again - despite their attempts on the night of their arrival. Perhaps it had been due to the time of day, or the location, so he'd been exploring a little, finding the edges of the town much closer than was comfortable in every direction.

And despite getting a better idea of what there was, and more specifically what there wasn't, Aziraphale had not found the exit he'd hoped for. It was shaping up to be a real tragedy, the kind they'd write about in the Bible truth be told. He had so loved the Apostles, they'd all been rather charming, even if their words had been twisted and changed in the years since they'd walked the earth. He could just picture Luke's outrage at finding himself in a place like this though.

He considered trying to contact heaven. Not even certain that he would receive an answer, and even less certain that he'd like the one he got - but he wasn't quite that desperate yet. So instead he was poking around again.

Though nothing seemed to have changed since his last turn around the town. Except.

"Hello, to you good fellow." Aziraphale raised a hand in greeting a smile on his face. It never hurt to try and make friends. Or at least some manner of contact. He wasn't certain things had gone all that well when he'd attempted the same at the dance days earlier. But there were less distractions here now than there had been that night.

Crichton had one helluva headache the day after the party. So bad, that he'd stayed in bed a couple of days after to try to clear it, surviving off whatever snack foods he'd stored away and just sleeping it off. Ugh.

But now his 'supplies' were low and he knew he needed to get out and do something. Yeah, the sun hurt his eyes, and yeah, he was still getting used to what to do around here, but he figured he'd at least pay Tony a visit. See if he found anything new. Or at least had a new toy to tinker with.

Making his way across town, he wasn't that surprised to see a man dressed in way too much white greeting him. Probably someone talked to or danced with at the party who he didn't remember. So he plastered a smile on his face and would just do what he usually did- just play along.

"Uh, hey!" John raised his hand. "How ya doin', uh...?" Yup, no idea who he was. Great.

"Azira-phale" He said introducing himself in the same way he had to Tony Stark, allowing a small pause when he said his name so it sounded like two.

Things had been quiet in the town since they'd arrived, as if they were all recovering from the festivities that had welcomed them to this strange place. And he wondered just how often they held celebrations like that, surely not often if it incapacitated them all for quite this long. But it was a new day and there were people about so Aziraphale was gathering information once more.

"I'm quite well, thank you. And how are you on this fine day?" He asked. Small talk was one thing he'd gotten very good at in his time on earth, and was happy to employ those skills now as he spoke with this new person.

"I do not think we've had the chance to meet yet, I'm rather new." He explained, "I'm still searching for some answers about all of this." He told him. "I wonder if I could trouble you for a bit of your time in that quest."

"Azira-Phale," he repeated with a faint smile. At least Aeryn had taught him how important it was to pronounce names correctly (she'd punched him enough times to make the point stick). "Well, it's a pleasure to meet you Azira-Phale."

John shrugged. "I'm good! Rested, ready to keep myself busy as usual." There wasn't much to do around here. And John was starting to suspect this guy was as new, if not newer than he was. And to prove his point, the man officially announced it. "Yeah, aren't we all, pal?" John shrugged. "You can ask away, but I don't think I'll be all that helpful. Kinda new here myself. Just getting my feet wet, so to speak."

"And it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance as well," He let his words trail out just a little waiting for a name to fill in there. Mortals these days, they'd given up on proper introductions and it was forever a bane to Aziraphale. What was so wrong about a nice exchange of pleasantries before you got down to the matters at hand?

"Oh yes of course, of course." He agreed as if he expected that answer though he was still just figuring it all out himself and was not sure what was normal and what wasn't. "What is it you keep yourself busy with?" He wondered, curious about how they were spending their time here. He could be content reading for a few decades or so but he would grow bored without much more entertainment than that.

"How long have you been here? You said you are new yourself, did you arrive this weekend as my companion and I did?" He inquired.

John had been so used to introducing himself, learning names, or just being lost he completely forgot he didn't mention his name until he saw the other man struggling. "Right. Sorry. John. John Crichton." He smiled and hoped the other man wasn't too offended.

"Uh..this and that, I guess. Mostly DVDs. Tinkering with a few things. Life here is...different for me than life back home." Hard to explain. This guy didn't seem like the sort that ran away from space cops, though.

"Not long at all. Maybe a week or two," John smiled and put his hands on his hips. "You just arrived? Wow, that's pretty recently- you guys doing okay?"

"The pleasure is mine." Aziraphale insisted once more after he had John's name, nodding at the introduction, glad to have it and happy to move on from that point. It took a little bit more than an awkward start to a conversation to ruffle his feathers after all.

"Is it?" He wondered, "What sort of life were you leading before you found yourself here?" He wondered, curious about just how different life might have been for this man, he of course had heard about the multiple universes at this point, the pocket universe they were supposedly in, the alternate realities and thus many different forms that people might take. But just what that was like remained to be seen really.

"Indeed, just the night before the big party," He agreed, it had been rather nice to be welcomed that way, he did so love to dance - not that he'd gotten the chance for it much. No one seemed to remember the style of dance he most appreciated. But he'd still given it a go. "My companion and I are doing well enough, I can't imagine we intend to stay that long though."

"Uh, yeah. I was in space before this- well, a ship. Living ship. Definitely not Earth. Are you from Earth?" He had to ask. Most people here were from Earth, but different versions. It was getting hard to te anymore.

"I was on the run with some escaped space-criminals after I accidentally ran into some guys ship. Kind of a long story," he frowned. "Promise I'm not dangerous. Maybe. Definitely crazy, but probably not dangerous." He offered a smile to Aziraphale to indicate he was joking. Mostly.

"Oh. Yeah. Wow. That's a helluva time to show up. You came with someone else, though?"

"In space? Isn't that wonderful." Space was a delight of course, as an angel he'd played a part in its creation, in the ordering of the entire universe of course, but humans in space? That was certainly new and different and a living ship as well. "How fascinating." It was all very interesting really, and not at all what Aziraphale would have expected, different worlds were perhaps far more different than he had anticipated.

He smiled though when John assured him that he wasn't dangerous, he wasn't worried of course, there were very few mortals who were of any real danger to an angel after all. Miracles being what they were but he nodded. "Of course of course, I've been accused of being crazy a few times in my life, but you know how that can be."

"I did, my companion and I were just on our way for some crepes when we showed up, rather a bit of a disappointment to find ourselves here rather than Paris though. I had such a craving." And now here he was trapped in a town that didn't seem to have even the barest approximation to a crepe. Such a shame really.

The guy was definitely...interesting. John watched him with a faint smirk as he tried to get a reading. He was almost overly optimistic, which set off alarm bells for Crichton, but not of the dangerous variety. Something about him was just...off.

But something about this whole place was off, wasn't it?

"Crepes. Right." Of course, John would've killed for some hot wings, but crepes were a different sort of thing. "Well, maybe try out those doors? Anyone tell you about those yet?"

It was really a shame that no one around him seemed all that interested in crepes, or the lack of them - he was going to have to take matters into his own hands at some point and he wasn't really looking forward to that. Food was never as food if he had a part in making it. But needs must. "Have you ever had one, dear fellow? They truly are a delight."

But then he mentioned the doors and that was new and interesting and Aziraphale shook his head, "No I haven't heard about these doors yet. I'll assume you don't mean the doors on our homes." The one on the home he and Crowley had settled into was certainly normal enough from his initial inspections - he might have to take a second look if it turned out things were not quite what they had seemed.

"But I'd love to hear about them if you know anything about them."

"Uh, once, actually. Thin pancake, right? I'm more of a burger and beer kinda guy." John could tell the other man was definitely the polar opposite in terms of taste. Maybe. Where Crichton was a country-guy at heart, Aziraphale seemed to like what his dad used to refer to as the finer things.

"Not exactly. Or at all, actually. I haven't been through them myself, but I'm told there are some doors in a building on the outskirts of town that lead to different places. Like places that aren't here. That's how they've been getting supplies in and stuff."

John had been meaning to test them out, but he hadn't gotten around to it, yet. "Maybe you can try 'em out and see if you can get to a place that has some crepes? Worth a look, right?"

"Oh it's so much more than just a pancake," Aziraphale told him earnestly shaking his head at the description, of course it was a close enough comparison if you were in a pinch but if you had the choice? Well there was no choice in the matter as far as Aziraphale was concerned. He'd never truly cared for the kind of fare that John seemed to, at least not in the same sort of way, he'd enjoyed many a wonderful steak in his time but there were so many better things that it would never be his first choice.

So John was not exactly an expert on the topic at hand, but Aziraphale was no fool any information was more better than none and he was curious what someone who had not used these doors yet thought of them. "How very interesting. I suppose that this place is a bit too small to sustain itself without some sort of intervention." Which begged the question of course who was intervening on their behalf in a place like this.

"Yes I think I will have to give them a look." He agreed, "This place is very interesting, so different from the world I know."

"Yeah. Got it," John said with a smirk, realizing this guy was one of those sorts. The kind that obsessed over something like Star Trek. Or, in this case, crepes. He wasn't going to argue.

He shrugged. "Probably right. Not complaining. They have pizza and beer, what more does a guy need?" A lot more, but he was still adjusting to just being back on Earth- well, an Earth-like place, anyway. He wasn't going to knock it. Even if he wondered could this somehow lead him home. Or if the rest of his friends half-way across the universe were doing alright.

"What's the world you know?" He had to ask.

It wasn't exactly that crepes were something that Aziraphale was obsessed with as much as he'd had his heart set on them and had been denied so they were rather a large part of his focus at the moment. But it would pass in time, he'd move on to the next great thought of the moment, but there was certainly a fixation at the moment.

"Were he to be well rounded a few books might not go amiss, and some champagne might be a welcome addition." He suggested, certainly man did not need much to survive but would it be a life worth living without some of the finer things? He thought not.

"The world I know? Well it is the world." He said simply, "Created some time ago, inhabited by humans, all very normal you see." As it was all meant to be, according to what he knew of the ineffable plan, as much as anyone could know anything about the ineffable plan after all. Maybe this was a part of it? Who was Aziraphale to say otherwise?

John laughed. He liked this guy. Nodding, he really couldn't argue about the books or champagne "Yeah, yeah, yeah, good point." John wasn't the finer things kinda guy, but he didn't mind the finer things when they were offered.

Trouble was, he hadn't had any of those things in a really, really long time.

"The world? Right...so Earth." John was jumping to conclusions, of course, but maybe the guy in front of him wasn't exactly right in the head. Of course, poor Aziraphale wouldn't have been alone in that.

"We'll have to see what we can do about a few improvements if it turns out that we're meant to be staying for long." He didn't need any of those things exactly, but what was the point of all of this without it?

Maybe those doors would be the key to making something like that a reality - he and Crowley would have to do some exploration and see what could be found. But that would come in time, when they were ready for it.

"Earth, yes." He agreed nodding, "And all the rest of course, the solar system, the galaxy, the universe I'm sure you know how it all goes."

"Riiiight," John stared at the man and tilted his head to the side as if trying to figure out a puzzle. Then he just shook it off. "Well, it was nice meeting you neighbor." Because, in all honesty, he had enough crazy in his own head and while this fellow was friendly and all, he was getting that kinda vibe from him.

"I'm just gonna...go to Stark's- but I'll see you around, yeah?" He smirked and waved, leaving the poor strange many on his own. All the while thinking, is that what people see when they talk to me?

No wonder he had such a hard time making friends across the universe.
