There had been more tears, after they'd made it back to John's house, she'd told him everything then - about the wedding and the way she'd run, her fears about it all, the realization that it wasn't ever going to work out between her and Piotr despite her harbored crush. It was just that, the crush of a teenage girl, and they'd been trying to make it work now that they were both grown up and it just wasn't work.
Of course she hadn't been able to admit that until the middle of the ceremony. She could have spared herself and Piotr a lot of hurt if she'd just been a little more brave. But she was scared, just like she had been here with John - not telling him about it. But he knew now - they'd had a set back, but she thought they could probably be okay again given enough time.
And after a few days spent at John's she needed to get back to her house, if only for a change of clothes at the very least.
What she found of course was something entirely different, it wasn't wholly different inside, but what she had missed in her haste days before was an addition just off the entrance. A familiar door - the kind of door they had at the Institute on the lower floors, where they trained and worked. And she reached out slowly to press the panel watching as the door slid open and inside was again another familiar sight - one of the labs from the school. One of the medical labs with some of the equipment and medicines they kept on hand for emergencies.
It was amazing and she was still exploring it when she heard John's voice call out for her, reminding her that outside this room was still the place that she'd been for weeks now. Not the rest of the school. "In here!" She called to him, encouraging him to join her. "John, you have to come see this."
