WHO: Molly Carpenter & Harry Dresden.
WHAT: Molly arrives.
WHERE: Town square.
WHEN: Today.
RATING: TBD

Molly was used to strange, strange was her life now and had been for a long time. That didn't mean that she liked it though. One moment she'd been preparing to attend a gathering and the next she found herself stood in what looked like a town square. Well this wasn't good. What seemed really odd was that there was a table sat there with a smartphone on it with a piece of paper underneath it.

She wasn't one to trust things immediately, she wasn't an idiot. Looking around she reached out to feel for any illusions or anything that might explain why it looked like she was somewhere else than where she'd just been. She could feel her wands in the pocket of her coat, at least she had them if she needed them which she really hoped she wouldn't.

When her eyes fell on a figure walking her way she tensed. There was no way it was who she thought it was, this was some kind of trick. It had to be. Or maybe it wasn't, there was only one way to find out really, well two and seeing as she didn't know exactly where she was magic might not be the way to go here. So option two it was. She straightened up and waited until he got a little bit closer before saying anything. "This your fault? Because I know it's not mine." A hint of a smile on her lips.

"Probably," Harry answered. Many things that happened were his fault, in some way. Or it seemed everything was his fault somehow. Maybe even this, though he wasn't sure how. He didn't know what he could have done to end up in this place to begin with. And now Molly was here too? He wasn't sure he liked that, really, except that it might be better for everyone that she was here with him, rather than here without him.

"You look good, Grasshopper," he said. He hadn't called her Grasshopper for a while. It wasn't really appropriate anymore. But it was a nickname and it just sort of rolled off his lips when he saw her. As much as he wished she wasn't here, he was happy to see her. Happy to see a familiar face. "You okay?"

When he called her Grasshopper her smile spread wider. It was definitely Harry, no one else called her that and the way he said it just sounded right. "Yeah, I'm fine. A little confused as to how I got here and where here actually is but I'm fine."

She glanced around, trying to figure out anything she could. "Unless of course Mab realizes I'm not where I'm supposed to be and comes looking for me." Of course that was if they were somewhere that Mab could find them. Molly suspected that wherever they were was not on Earth and it definitely wasn't the Nevernever. "It's good to see you."

"Let's hope not." Harry was not Mab's biggest fan. Mab was not Harry's biggest fan. Things tended to go south super fast when Mab was around. Things tended to go south when Harry was around, too, but he was a little less obvious about it than The Winter Queen.

"It's good to see you too, Molly." Harry flashed a smile. He'd known Molly since she was a kid. He'd seen her grow up, and come into her own. She was a young woman now, and she'd been through hell and come out the other side. She was strong and beautiful, and wicked powerful as wizards went.

Especially with the Winter Mantle..."You doing okay, really?" he asked her. He was her mentor. He felt a little bit of personal responsibility for her. Not because he was her Winter Knight and she was his Lady. But because she was Molly. He'd fought side by side with her father many times. He cared for her, regardless of the wizarding side of things. That was just bonus.

Molly knew how Harry felt about Mab, truth was she wasn't a fan of The Winter Queen either, especially after she'd not told her a few very important things about the Winter Mantle.

"I'm doing as well as anyone could when they find themselves somewhere random suddenly," she said, smiling softly at him. Molly cared for Harry, it was no secret and hadn't been for a long time. Seeing him here helped more than she would admit.

"Any idea where we are? Or how we got here?" She might be The Winter Lady now but she still looked to him for help when she needed it. Some things never changed and part of her hoped they never would.

"No," Harry answered honestly. He had no idea where they were, or how they ended up in this place. Only that it wasn't home. "All I can tell you is we're a long way from Chicago. And maybe even further from Winter."

He wasn't going to complain about that. It sucked, though, because as Winter Knight, he had definite responsibilities.

"I don't really know much, Molly. Hard as that is to admit." He was completely out of his depths here. "I've been here a couple days. Not long. And I haven't turned up anything useful yet."

"I'd figured that much out already," she said, smiling a little more. "I guess I'm not going to be working on the backlog for a while."

Being so far from home wasn't easy, being so far from Winter... maybe that wasn't a bad thing.

"Have you tried to call on Winter at all since you've been here?" If they couldn't access the power of Winter that might be a problem if something big and bad showed up but they weren't helpless without it. "You mean you haven't got it all figured out already? I'm disappointed, Sensei," she said in a teasing tone.

He flashed a smile. He knew she was teasing, even if the message was a serious one. He should have figured it all about. And maybe he should have lied to her about it. He should have let her think he had it all figured out, and everything was fine.

But didn't, and it wasn't. And lying to Molly was not a habit he wanted to start.

"Tried. Number's been disconnected," he told her. It was a joking way to ease into the conversation. Because it was a serious issue.

She appreciated that he didn't lie to her, she could always count on him to be honest with her. Of course it was a little worrying to hear they couldn't access Winter.

"So, nothing?" she asked, wondering what that meant for her specifically. Did it mean the Mantle wouldn't be able to wreck her life here?

"What about normal magic? We can still use that, right?" Being cut off from Winter was one thing, being cut off from all magic just sounded like a bad thing, a very bad thing.

"Nothing," Harry confirmed. He drew a breath. "Magic is functional. Just can't reach the Nevernever or anything like that." And he didn't have Bob. Or Mouse. Or Mister. Or Thomas. Which sucked. He missed his brother more than he wanted to admit. Mister wasn't very useful really, but he was Harry's cat. Mouse was...special. And Bob, well. He could really use some of Bob's all knowing sarcasm right about now.

"I don't know how or why we're here. If it's Summer's doing, they've masked it well." What else made sense? Some other big bad Harry had pissed off in the past. There were at least a dozen of them. But were any capable of this? He wasn't sure. He didn't like to think about it.

"That's something I suppose." At least they still had magic. Of course what could cut them off from Winter like that. Molly had never heard of anything but that didn't mean that it wasn't possible. Mad certainly wasn't forthcoming about a lot of things. It could even be a test set by Mab.

"What if it's Mab?" she asked, looking at Harry with a questioning look. "What if she's testing us? Seeing what we do or something. I wouldn't put it past her. We both know what she's like." She wasn't sure what would be better, if it was something else or The Winter Queen herself doing this. It sent a shiver through her just thinking about it.

"Okay, we can figure this out but first I really need a change of clothes," she said, gesturing down to the dress she was wearing. "As good as I look in this it isn't practical if we have to fight. Any idea where I can get something to wear?"

"Let's walk," Harry suggested. "I'm sure we can find something for you in town." She did look quite stunning in the dress. But it wasn't practical. Dresses, if seemed, were not very practical. Harry was glad men didn't wear them. He preferred his pants, thank you very much. The closes thing to a dress he wore was his duster, which reached to his ankles.

"I have thought of that, but I don't think so. It doesn't feel like Mab, you know?" He couldn't even begin to put into words what he meant. Or why he felt that way. But that didn't make it any less real in his mind. "I think it's something else. A force greater than Winter or Summer, which I'm not gonna lie, scares the crap out of me."

"I'm sure we can," she agreed. She was still a bit of a tomboy at heart, likely always would be but she did like wearing dresses now. They just really weren't practical at all. She'd hang onto this one though because it really did look good on her.

"Yeah, I know what you mean." Whatever was at work here definitely didn't feel like the work of Mab or anyone else she'd come across. "Big scary evil? Good thing we've got a lot of practice dealing with those," she teased, trying to keep things lighter and not think about how scary it was that whatever was doing this was more powerful than Winter or Summer.

Harry had dealt with a lot of big bads in his life. He supposed that was the price for being his mother's son. Molly had been through quite a bit of it with him, unfortunately. He really wished he could have spared her the life she'd fallen into.

But there was no time for regrets. He'd learned that the hard way. Regrets led to sloppy decisions, and choices that weren't thought through. That was when people got hurt, or even killed.

"Right, so. Let's get you some decent clothes. Then we'll figure out what the hell we do next."

Molly didn't regret the life she'd lived. Sure there were things she'd wished had gone differently but everything she'd been through had made her the woman she was today. She knew nothing good came from regret.

"And shoes, I don't want to be running around in these heels," she said, gesturing down at the shoes on her feet. "Where are you staying? I'm gonna need a place to stay."
