Who: Loki & Kate
What: Partner Thread! | Loki's Arrival
When: Thursday Evening
Where: Courtyard by the well
Rating: Low
Status: Complete!

Kate was seriously beginning to miss the convenience of daily life in a normal world. Fast food joints, coffee makers, tap water. While she loved the recent discoveries people had made, it still didn't change the fact that she had to tug on a rope and pull a full bucket of water up so she could have a cup of coffee. Not to mention she'd have to boil the water too! There were too many steps to this and she hated it.

"Stupid world with a lack of things that could make other things easy!" Kate muttered to herself as she pulled the bucket up, taking a break halfway to wipe her brow. "Man, I really AM outta shape!" Was that something she should work on here? Part of her figured she'd need to; if she was going to do any more exploring, she'd have to be ready for anything. Literally anything. She tried not to let her imagination get away with her, but she sorta wanted to start a betting line on who could come up with the craziest possibilities and if anyone would actually visit such a place.

It'd give them something to do.

A movement caught her eye and she glanced towards it, not seeing anything but the trees. She could have sworn she saw something and she wished she had her gear on her. There hadn't been any animals that had come close to the village before, at least from what she heard. Maybe it was a new arrival? She hoped it was a new arrival and that they were friendly.

It was amazing how he could make every gesture seem like he was giving you the gift of himself. "Yeah, I guess I should have known better." While the statement itself could have been read one way or the other, her tone suggested she was mostly happy to see him. She was still a bit upset he hadn't stopped in, especially after everything they'd been through, but at least he looked alright.

She couldn't help but roll her eyes at his excuse. "It wasn't about the holiday Loki, it was about hanging out with friends." If he even considered them friends. Sometimes Kate questioned.

"I dunno." A quick shrug of the shoulders. "How did you get here?"

Loki decided to pay more mind to the tone rather than the cutting sarcasm than her words might have otherwise implied. It was nice to think that someone actually wanted to run into him rather than just expecting it would happen some day because that was the way fate seemed to will it.

Fate had nothing on Loki, anyway.

He lifted a shoulder as if to say he didn't have much intention of apologizing for his past actions (although maybe it was somewhat warming to think they might have wanted him there, or maybe even have accepted him into their group for a longer period of time). It had been years ago now, anyway.

He offered a sniff, glancing around at the quaint little homes, offset by water and then woods to the other side. No, he certainly hadn't meant to come here. Probably neither had Bishop. "I opened a door," he said, and while it was honest, it was lacking in details, as Loki was wont to do at any given time.

"Cool. Very specific." She sighed, gesturing around her. "Welcome to America 2.0. Or as a lot of other people like to call it, Starklandia." She figured those names would settle well with Loki. There still seemed to be some debate on the actual name of this place, but she was trying to be a good friend and side with America on this one.

"I think you'll hate it here." She gave him a 'sorry not sorry' look and nodded her head towards the table that always seemed to be there. She never saw who set it up, but it was almost like they were expecting people or knew when they would come. It would have Loki's welcome package waiting for him, she was sure.

"This place seems to be accumulating a whole array of people." Kate fell in step with him, sneaking glances at him here and there. If she was having mixed feelings about him being here, she had a feeling there would be others who felt a bit more strongly one way or the other. Her mind went to America in particular and she chewed the bottom of her lip.

"I think you'll recognize a lot of them. But others..." She looked at him and shrugged. "They don't seem like your average Joe Schmoe either."

America 2.0 or Starklandia? Loki looked wholly unimpressed with both of those names and tilted his head to the side to show it. "Really? You have a chance to name a place anything you like and you just --?" Honestly. He could have done better. Maybe he would do better, in fact. It didn't seem much like it was set in stone.

Still, he headed to the little table curiously and picked up one of the phones waiting for him, turned it over in his hands and slide his fingers over the touch screen. At least it had a camera function. And it was, apparently, solar powered. "Interesting," he said, and figured Kate was probably right. He'd hate it here. But he'd been worse places and this was no Asgardian prison, at the very least. Loki did not bother being concerned with who or who was not here that he knew. Not yet, anyway.

"Average Joe Schmoes don't generally get one way tickets to lands that should not exist," Loki countered, still paging through the phone, and the little network connection he'd found on it. "It feels newly made, like the dirt hasn't been tainted with time. There are no stories. How incredibly boring. How long have you been here?"

"Eh, it wasn't the most important thing at the time?" From the little America had told Kate about it, it was really just about preference and pride. Not surprising when it came down to her and...well, anyone. Still, you had to love a girl who stood by her convictions! And that's exactly what Kate was doing. Standing by her girl. "I'm sure you'll figure out something just as good. Maybe better." Not that anyone would really pay it any mind. That's what made things tricky with Loki; he had legitimate, good ideas but people didn't trust him. There was always an ulterior motive with this kid.

"Aw, that doesn't seem fair to Joe." Kate made a pouty face, but that made sense. Everyone she had talked to or heard about seemed to have some kind of power. Or magic. Or skill. Or whatever you wanted to call it. And with the crazy portal door, she doubted if an average Joe would make it through one trip.

His seamless transition from the poetic, mythological god-speak to asking about her time spent here was almost shocking. Almost.

"Uhhh..." She made a face, trying to count how long she'd been there. How long ago had they gotten the espresso machine? A week ago? And maybe two weeks before that they'd arrived?

"A month?" She opened her eyes a bit wider, not realizing how quickly time had passed. Wow.

Loki didn't always have ulterior motives. Sometimes he was just going one day at a time like everyone else. Not usually, but sometimes.

Admittedly, he hadn't had a plan when he'd stepped through the door and ended up here and he definitely didn't have a plan now, so -- well. It was a strange situation to be in for him. That wasn't a great feeling. "Definitely better," he said, but it was sort of dismissively. He probably wouldn't come up with something better, if only because he didn't spectacularly care.

"A month?" He repeated in question, clearly a bit surprised. The period of time wasn't really long for him (his life span was long, after all) but it did seem like a long time to just be -- well. Whatever it was people did here. A lot of nothing, he imagined, from the look of things. For a moment, he allowed himself to look vulnerable: surprised and a little wary of the idea. Because he didn't know what he was going to do with himself, and leaving was the first thing he'd tried doing when he got here and it hadn't worked. "Unfortunate," he decided on, finally.

It was one of the only times Kate saw a true emotion cross his face, and for a split second, she felt bad for him. He seemed to have stumbled into this place the same way the rest of them had, but she had a feeling it was hitting him harder. He rarely did anything without a backup plan (or multiple ones) and she figured he didn't have one for this.

"Hey, look at the bright side," she said, slapping him on his back. "At least you're here with friends!" She gave him the biggest grin she could, hoping to make him feel better but maybe just rubbing him the wrong way instead. Hey, she didn't know how to handle these types of situations. This was more of an America kind of situation. She always knew what to say or do. Something like 'stop moping chico, we've got to come up with a plan.'

"Let's go catch up over some coffee." This was more Kate's style of helping. "C'mon, on me." She steered him towards COFFEE, sure he would be back up and running, with his same old Loki scheming ways once he had some caffeine coursing through him. She knew she could use a cup.

The slap on the back and the grin was -- well. It did not make Loki feel better but it wasn't like it offended him either. It was very Kate Bishop, in a way and he could respect that. As much as he could respect Kate anyway. His expression went a little dubious but he let it go and offered a shrug.

"Right," he agreed. "At least there are friends." Was he actually friends with Kate? Not exactly, but they'd been something close to it once. He'd dared to hope for that, once. That was something.

"Alright," he allowed, letting himself be steered toward a new building. "Coffee it is." Although he might have preferred tea, he got the impression that there weren't all that many options here. It certainly didn't look like there was an option for breakfast meat around, which was a true shame.

He supposed he'd just have to deal.
