"John," She said again, because she certainly wasn't about to start calling him by that name - the one that had scared her when she'd been younger and when they had been on opposite sides. They talked a lot about their mutant names back home, about the differences between those names and their given names. Generally they were the sort of thing that Kitty might have used interchangeably for some of them - like Storm, but for her she was Kitty - she had other code names but they weren't who she was at the heart of it all.
She was Kitty Pryde, and she was a mutant. She didn't want to hide herself behind some other name.
And she knew that John was more than what his name implied and she was going to continue using his real name as long as she could. This world was on fire, and Kitty couldn't help but blame herself for it.
But seeing John, covered in soot, the evidence of what he'd done all around them, she couldn't help the way her heart broke seeing him standing there like that demanding to be called Pyro. "I want to talk." She said, "About that invitation. About all of this. About us." She wanted to get him home, to try and put things right as much as possible. Strange how a place she'd been brought to without her consent felt like home now.
