The situations they'd both been in were similar enough that Remus felt without making assumptions he could relate to her and what she'd been through. He didn't need to know the exact details to understand that she'd been in a position where someone who claimed ownership of her, manipulated her into a state where she felt she had something to prove in order to have worth, and punished her if she did not deliver. The circumstances in which Remus had gone to run with Greyback's pack were very different, but Greyback had looked at him the same way she was describing the Titan who claimed paternal ownership of her had looked at her. They were tools, opportunities to fulfill the agenda of someone else no matter what the cost. Remus had no idea he could have so much in common with someone else. Not about that. He wouldn't wish that on anyone, but he felt some sort of kinship with her. They could understand each other, and what the other felt about things like this.
"I am very glad you were able to get away from him," Remus said. "You deserve the chance, to be your truest self and not what he tried to make you." His expression became a bit saddened. "The reason I was turned was out of revenge. Greyback, the one who turned me, had it out for my father. My father had a strong prejudice against werewolves and spoke out against Greyback, which angered him. During the next full moon, he hid outside of our house, specifically outside of my window, and once he changed, he broke in and bit me. He knew, turning me, would punish my father." He met Nebula's gaze. "Neither of us had a choice then, but I suppose, what you're saying, is that we have the choice now to be the best version of ourselves. We don't have to let the actions of others define us. I don't have to let what the wolf did define me."
His saddened expression shifted more neutral, verging on that of a small smile. "It is easier said than done. I still feel awful for biting you."
