It was complicated of course, but then Nebula found most interactions with people not Gamora to be a little bit complicated. But this was something else entirely - to talk with someone so openly about her past was unlike her. But after she and Tony had talked she felt like this was important, despite the large parts of her that did not care to relive those parts of her past that had made her a tool of Thanos rather than the individual she now knew herself to be.
She watched as he lifted his hand, like this as nothing more than a man, Nebula did not fear or worry about him so close. But she watched him all the same as he first indicated her new addition before he pulled back his shirt to show her his own scar, he did not have the benefit of being easily patched the way she did and she could see the way he had been torn after he'd been bit - and not as an adult and capable fighter, but as a child.
"Thanos called me his daughter." She knew what it was to have a monster claim you as their own. Even now it was a difficult burden to bear, knowing that people looked at her and saw only a daughter of Thanos. And not who she was. "For a long time I sought to please him, even knowing he killed my true family, I tried to make a new one with him. But I was never good enough. No matter how many upgrades he gave me, no matter what new tortures he devised to improve me." She breathed out slowly, it was easier now, knowing how far removed she was from that place, where she feared what Thanos might do to her next.
"That is not family, and those words, son, daughter - they were only ever a tool to cow us." She told him, "To make us submit to something that we'd have never chosen for ourselves." Their stories were different in many ways, but Nebula saw more than enough similarities between them. "I found my real family, after a time, my sister-" She didn't quite smile but her demeanor lightened when she talked about Nebula. "It was easier to see a way out then, to move beyond what I was made for and to create my own life. I have had many years to grow, I did not always see a way out the way I do now. This place is different from the worlds we've come from," She lifted a hand a little bit gesturing around them, "A place to remake yourself if you choose to take the opportunity."
