Remus had mostly always taken that standpoint. He knew what he was, he knew the monster that dwelled within him, but he tried to always be the best person he could be and keep moving forward. It was just hard to do that when said monster was capable of causing all of his worst fears to come true and then could disappear back into his body to leave Remus to deal with the aftermath.
He listened, his heart aching for her as she began to tell him an abbreviated account of her life's misfortune. Hearing that there was someone out there who had done such cruelties to her was horrible. He could trace the parallels, what she was trying to get across to him in that they'd both been through something where someone else controlled parts of their lives, caused them to do things they wouldn't have done of their own free will. While he hated that for her, it did seem that she understood the difference between Moony and Remus. And that even though Remus still held himself accountable for the wolf's actions, she didn't.
He lifted his hand, toward where the newer repair work had been done to her shoulder. Remus didn't touch it; he would never be so presumptuous to think he could just do that, but he gestured to it. "Just there, where I bit you --" He used that same hand to pull at the collar of his shirt and cardigan to reveal the skin of his shoulder. Just enough to show the jagged, mangled scar -- his first. "I was bitten in the same place when I was turned as a child. I did to you what my creator did to me. I'm -- I'm so grateful you will not suffer from the affliction, but it scares me, to think I did what he did. I don't want to be like him, but I was made to run with him and his pack for a long while, and he considered me his son. It made me sick to hear him say those words." He released his collar and lowered his hand to his side again.
"You... You must be very strong," he went on to say. "To endure what you have, and still be able to look at things the way you do."
