Steve shouldn't have got involved. Which of course meant of course he was going to get involved. He wasn't Super, he was just Steve Rogers but he still had a heck of a lot of heart. But heart wasn't the only thing that won wars, but he wouldn't have been able to live with himself if he'd sat it out, or something had happened to Remus. So he was there and although he managed a good throw of his shield, he had thought for a moment he and Sirius might have it under control, but that had been wishful thinking.

He knew Tony was going to be angry, but he also knew he'd understand. This was part of who they were and putting themselves in the line of fire was essentially a full time job. If something happened to him while he was protection people, so it would be. But today wasn't that day and to Steve's credit he followed at a distance after he'd recovered his shield.

Everything happened fast and just when he'd been ready to charge back in Tony finished it, maybe that's why he finished it.

In the aftermath Steve took a few puffs on an inhaler, checking on people and making sure Claire had what she needed before he returned to the center of town. He fetched Sirius some coffee and embraced him for a long moment before leaving him to it.

"Next time." Some other night Tony would be into that, into giving Steve whatever he pleased for as long as he pleased. Preferably on a night when he didn't have anything else to be doing the next day. Because -- yeah. He was definitely going to feel this one tomorrow and several days after even.

Tony didn't mind. He smiled, a goofy little thing that spoke of how pleased he was, how good he felt just now. He tilted his head up just enough to actually touch his nose to Steve's. "Yeah," he said in answer. Because he wanted both rather a lot. Sleep sounded awesome but he knew himself well enough to know that while he was a mess right now and it was kind of sexy, he wouldn't feel even remotely the same in the morning when it was dried and sticky. So. A bath. And if he fell asleep in there, Steve would handle all the little details and it'd be fine.

Steve was always going to handle all the little details for Tony that he needed handling. Like laundry or food or going to bed, Steve had that covered and he loved that Tony maybe needed him a little. Not needed him needed him, but chose to need him which was even better,

Sure the house was quiet and the occupants still asleep, Steve carried Tony to the bath because he could and it felt good doing things like that again. While he let Tony relax in the water Steve stripped the sheets and remade the bed before he came back to fish him out again. Finally back in bed Steve sighed happily as Tony fit in underneath his chin, far more comfortable back in his body than he had been in the previous days. While it hadn't been fun, Steve had to admit knowing for sure that Tony still loved him no matter what version of himself he was was pretty damn special.

But he was in no hurry to try it again any time soon.
