We'll do it together, Steve had said once. A long time ago now, and Tony had believed it at the time. And then he hadn't. He wondered, a little bit, if it was stupid to go full circle, to get back to the point where he believed it again. Tony sighed, rubbing at the bridge of his nose over Steve's stance, the way he'd back down a little but never apologize for doing what he thought was right.
Steve was probably wise to leave some space between them, to go get some coffee while Tony stared at his nanotech box, trapping someone who only deserved it through horrible circumstance and the two friends who sat beside it, one looking tired, sad and incredibly worse for wear. There was nothing Tony could give them to make it better.
"A peace offering, huh?" He asked, taking the coffee and glancing down at it, surprised almost. Like he'd nearly forgot it was coming. "You think that's really gonna work?" It was so odd, really, how he'd posed the question -- like maybe it would, depending on how Steve answered.
