Who: Marguerite and Open
What: Getting her bearings
Where: Near the coffee shop
When: July 14th
Rating: Shouldn't be high, but pg13 to be safe.

Marguerite had certainly seen her fair share of strange things during her time on the plateau, but this certainly was a new one. She still couldn't believe that she had somehow managed to get trapped in yet another new place and this time without any of her friends....or Roxton for that matter. She didn't like the fact that she somehow felt like she wasn't sure if she could survive this place without him. She was so used to doing things for herself, but during her time on the plateau she had slowly learned to rely on other people.....and John had been first among them. He had always been there to help her, even when she didn't always deserve it. She had never thought there would be a place that would make her long for the plateau, but this one certainly did. Sure it was nice to be away from the dinosaurs and the ape men, but the plateau had become her home and this place couldn't hold a candle to it....at least in her mind. Now there was no way she would admit any of this out loud of course.....at least not to anyone other than John. He had a way of worming things out of her, even when she was determined to keep them to herself.

With these thoughts all rolling around in her head she made her way down the strange sidewalks. She kept her eyes open for any dangers, this place somehow making her even more hyper aware than the plateau ever had. She still had her gun on her hip, and her whip on the other side. Her favorite pocket knife was still in her boot. She never went anywhere without being armed. She knew better than most just how fast things could go from safe to not safe. Sure she had gotten to where she didn't mind John fighting beside her, but she could still handle her own business if he wasn't around.

She also knew that being to confrontational could lead to unecesary trouble, so she made sure to keep that winning smile on her lips as she finally walked into one shop that she found interesting. It was a place simply called coffee and since that was something that she could certainly use right now she decided to see what the shop was like. As she made her way inside she had a look around, before making her way over to the counter. She had watched the other patrons and saw what they did, and she had always been very good at fitting into new places. So, it didn't take her long to figure out how to order herself a coffee and once she had it in hand she made her way over to an empty table and had a seat.

The Doctor had long since gotten used to new faces. She was good with new faces, maybe not so much when they were her own, though. But just because she was good with new faces didn't always mean she was good with other things. Like walking, for instance. Especially walking with an arm full of notes, books, and whatever else was in her arms. So when she walked into the coffee shop, pressing the door open with her back and headed towards her usual table to meet with Tony Stark about another new theory, she accidentally bumped into the table of another new face and almost dropped her book on the woman's foot. Luckily, it missed.

"Oh! Sorry!" She made a face and tried to crouch down and pick up the text, only to lose her papers in the process. She frowned, staring at them for a moment, looking put out but quickly gathering them again. "Really, these tables are movin' every day- guess that's the nature of furniture. Sometimes. To move, I mean."

Of course, she didn't recognize Marguerite at first. New woman. Right. The Doctor stood, papers still scattered and held out her hand. "Hullo! I'm the Doctor. Who're you?" She wasn't trying to be rude, but she could be very direct at times.

When the woman bumped her table Marguerite looked up quickly, but then flashed a small smile. It had clearly been an accident, so making a big deal out of it wasn't going to get her anywhere. "It's perfectly fine" she answered, reaching down to help with the papers if she could.

"It certainly seems that way" she answered in reference to the furniture moving. She had certainly had days like that, and she wasn't about to judge anyone for doing it too. She leaned back in her seat again, looked the woman up and down. She couldn't help wondering if this had been the same Doctor that had spoke to her before.

"Oh yes...I believe we spoke once. My name is Marguerite" she added. She wasn't phased by the woman's directness. She had dealt with people like that and on most occasions she could be like that.

The Doctor's smile broadened when the other woman offered to help. She never knew what to expect from the new people, and it was always a relief to find the kind ones. At least, she assumed Marguerite was kind. Not that she knew knew, but usually 13 was good at sussing out this sort of thing. Mostly.

"Did we?! Good! Yes! Right." She nodded, recognizing the name, looking very pleased. "It's good to put a face to the name- always weird tryin' to picture what people look like. Never quite get it right. I thought you'd be redder- oh well!"

Without the invitation, the Doctor took a seat across from her new friend. Poor woman had no idea what she was in for. "So, Marguerite, how ya likin' the town so far? Found a place to stay yet? Oooh, have you seen the porgs??"

She saw the smile on her woman's face and her own smile widened slightly. It was clear that the other person was eager to make new friends and Marguerite did need some allies in this strange place. So, this just might be the right first step in the right direction. And this person did seem like a good choice. Marguerite did often see the good in people, even if she tried to hide it most of the time. She did it to keep people from seeing the good in her, but some people did manage to see past her walls.

"And it's nice to meet you in person as well" she answered in return. She heard the redder comment and it only made her smile. Sure most people might be freaked out by a comment like that, but living on the plateau for so long Marguerite knew that there was more on this Earth and in the Heavens than most people would expect.

Her taking the seat only made Marguerite relax a little more. Here was a chance to learn some more about this place. "Well I haven't seen too much, Actually this is the only place I've been inside of since I got here. But I would like to know more".

"Oh? Really? Well, I guess a good cuppa can help in almost any situation, yeah? Can't blame you! Though I like mine a bit stronger- never enough tea here, either." Not that it was Clint's fault. The Doctor had a tendency to drink him out of house and home in that regard, always moving, always coming and going. He really did a great job of keeping up with her. Poor man.

"Wait- have you found a house yet?? That's usually the first thing people do around here- where are you stayin'? Near the pond? Ooo, are you near the doors??" There was that eagerness again, and that smile. She looked down at her notes, shuffling through them and regathering a few as she talked.

"M'glad to meet you, anyway- it's a bit ominous around here if you're new- well, is ominous the right word? D'ya think? Maybe not ominous? Intimidating?"

"So very true" she answered with a small smile. In truth coffee had always been something that she had enjoyed and she had found it calming most of the time as well. On top of that this had seemed like a good place to blend in and people watch. If there was one thing she had learned in all her years as a spy it was that blending in was a big part of surviving in a new place. If she drew too much attention the odds are that attention would bring trouble right along with it. And trouble was something she wanted to avoid....at least for now.

"I haven't really thought much about a place yet" she added, her honesty showing through now. She saw no reason to lie to them woman. She hadn't looked for a place to stay yet, but that's only because she had hoped that she wouldn't be staying in this strange world. She wanted to get back to her home....well the plateau...odd how it seemed more like home now than even her version of London.

"Fortunately I don't scare easily" she continued. "Plus I've seen worse. I am sure this place can't be all bad. Most places aren't".

"It's not. Quite brilliant actually, once you get used to it. Do miss travelin', though." The truth was, the Doctor wasn't very good at staying in one place for too long and it was beginning to way on her. Just a little.

"So where do you come from? Earth?" She smiled and leaned forward on the table, studying her face. "Human? Ooo, London??? Been a while since I've been to London- what year?"

It was s if she was pinpointing that the other woman was somehow distinct from others in this place. The Doctor was good at that sort of thing, after all.

"Oh traveling is always the best way to clear one's head" she answered honestly. She had never been one to like staying put either; of course a big part of it for her was the fear that the wrong people might catch up with her. She didn't usually share the latter fact with people most of the time though, because she never knew who she could trust to keep that secret for her.

"Yes I am from Earth....do you mean to say that you aren't from Earth?" she continued, turning the question on the other woman now. Sure she had seen aliens before, but she hadn't seen any that looked so much like other humans. "It was 1922 for me. I've seen the future once before, but it didn't look like this" she added, getting a little lost in her own thoughts and losing some of that filter.

"And London was a place close to my heart, but just before this I was in South America on an expedition of sorts".

"1922! Good year- er, just be careful with the stock market in 1929. I'd definitely pull out my investments before then if I were you," She nodded and smiled. "Yes! An alien- well, alien to you. Time Lord. We look human, but different on the inside." She could go into details about that later, instead choosing to gloss over it a bit.

"What did the future you saw look like, exactly??" She was intrigued, what could an alternative future look like in another dimension??"

"So you were in South America?? Where? Not lookin' into the Aztecs, I hope- wait, 1922. Probably didn't have problems with that lot, then. Sweet people, just interestin' ceremonial habits."

"Thank you for the warning, but I don't think the Stock Market would be my biggest issue...at least not where I was living" she answered, sharing a little more about herself than usual. "Time Lord, so you're from a different planet, then?" she continued, clearly not as phased by this as some other people might have been. The plateau had certainly made her even more open minded about things than she had ever been before.

"Well the future I went to was a lot worse than this. Most of the world had been destroyed and people were living like scavengers, taking what they needed" she continued, her eyes glossing over slightly as she remembered that horrible place and time. It was certainly somewhere that she never wanted to go back to.

Now this was something she had dreaded trying to explain to anyone here. As much as they had seen would any of them believe that there was a plateau out there where dinosaurs and other ancient creatures still existed? "I was in an uncharted land...a plateau, where dinosaurs and other creatures had survived" she answered, deciding to go for the honest route and hope for the best.

"Maybe. Maybe not," the Doctor shrugged but sat up straighter when the woman questioned about Time Lords. "I am." She smiled proudly. "Very far away. Very far."

When Marguerite explained her world, the Doctor's brows came together in concern, clearly not liking that one bit. she hadn't seen a future scenario like that. Not for Earth. Definitely a different universe, then. "I'm sorry to hear that. Any idea how that came about?"

Dinosaurs? 1922? Well, it wasn't the strangest thing she'd encountered. She looked more curious than surprised. "Huh. Intrerestin'. Very Jules Verne."

"I've met Aliens before, but they didn't look like you" she answered, somewhat more honestly than she had originally intended. She certainly hoped she hadn't offended her already. This was a problem she had often. Sometimes she was just too honest for her own good.

"Oh yes. It was a Demon....or something claiming to be a demon" she continued. She hadn't really believed the story completely, even then. "Personally I think it was a being from another dimension, and he used people's fears to intimidate them".

"Sometimes it certainly did feel like I was living something out of a novel. You would be surprised at the things I saw there".
