Who: Tony & Jan
What: Water, please
When: First day
Where: Town square
Rating: Low
Status: Incomplete

Jan stared between the phone in one hand and a slip of paper in the other. It looked like directions somewhere, but she still wasn’t sure what was happening. She blinked, looking up and shielding her eyes from the sun as she glanced between that the courtyard she was standing in. What was happening? And more importantly, how did she get to be standing here with these things? Another set of blinks and she was searching through the phone, looking for any kind of clue, but coming up with nothing. It seemed to be linked to some kind of network, but it wasn’t actually the internet. There didn’t seem to be a trace of it and Jan felt a kind of panic rise in her. Alright, alright, it was ok, it. Was. Ok.. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. What was the last thing you remember. She remembered graduating and the Academy. She remembered pairing up with Tony and going out to become real superheroes.

Tony.

Her eyes shot open and she looked around the deserted area. “Tony?” She listened and shrank down, her wings coming out to lift her up. “TONY!” She called louder, realizing that was a mistake as her voice didn’t have the same volume now that she was smaller. Still, she searched all around this strangely cute town, looking for her friend.

By the time she came back, she was tired and plopped down on the edge of the well, fanning herself. She grew back to her normal size and was about to look and see if there was actually water in there when she heard a noise on her right. She whipped behind the well, her arms raised, blasters at the ready. When the man finally stumbled into view, a look of surprise flashed on her face and she stood up.

“Tony?” Well...it was. Kind of. But not really as she remembered him. He looked older, more….weathered? Battered? Whatever the word was, he didn’t look good. “What happened? Are you ok?”

Bless him. Jan smiled and fell in beside him, ready to catch him at any moment. She didn't think he looked too up for a long walk, but at least they could see what was around. Hopefully, they could find something for food. Lodging didn't seem to be a problem. She they wouldn't run into anyone (or anything) that would bother them.

"So. Thanos. Drifting in space. You ok?" Her tone indicated she meant more than physically. She knew he was strong and didn't like to admit his weaknesses. But she wanted him to know she was there if he needed it. Who knew? Everyone processed things differently.

Yeah, maybe just a little walk. And then after that, possibly just a big sleep. Tony wasn't even really sure he wanted food at this point so much as he just wanted to sit down and close his eyes. But for now, he'd keep up. Jan wanted to explore, and he was curious too. Of course he was.

He glanced over her at the question, and it occurred to him that Jan really probably was his best friend in some other world. Because she was smart, with the way she worded her questions. Like she knew how to handle it without showing she was doing just that. It was --kind of funny. In a way. "Oh. You know," he said, which maybe she actually did. No. He was not okay. Nor was he going to admit it.

Did she? She wanted to think she did. The Tony she knew probably wouldn't be ok. It would be a lot, even for him and his certainty of himself. She imagined that he didn't think he would be bested so easily, that there was a small, glinting hope that the good guys would always win; that they would always win. From the feel of it, it seemed like they didn't this time around.

"Yeah," she said, nodding her head as if she did understand. She'd just go with she had the right idea. Because even though Tony might change in age, appearance, even DNA, deep down, he was still Tony. He would always be Tony Stark, no matter from what universe. And Jan just knew that Tony. "I'd recommend looking for a bar, but I think you need a few more things before that. Medical and then bar." She prayed they could find something. She imagined he needed vital liquids and would need to take it slow on what he ate.

"But, you know..." She tried to think of the right thing to say. "We're here. Of all the dimensions and worlds and alternate realities, we were able to find each other! I think we'll always find each other. And the others will find us too." She grinned at him and turned her attention back to their surroundings. She needed to at least get him laid up if they couldn't find anything else of use.

"Oh! Wait!" She stopped, holding her hand out to grab his arm and stop him. "The table! We gotta get you hooked up with some of their tech!" Maybe he had a slip with a room number on it...that or they could steal someone else's that was close to her room number! DORMMATES!

She lead the way over to the table, waving her hand as if she had just provided a generous bounty. "Welcome to No Name Land! I guess this is our welcome package."

While liquor wasn't a vital liquid just now, Tony would rather have preferred that. Mind, they didn't find much of anything beside the water and that was probably for the best. What Tony wanted and what he needed weren't always the same thing.

"Yeah," he repeated, and couldn't help turning introspective, at least a little. They'd failed, sure, but then there was -- this. Whatever this was. This place, full of nothing but houses and emptiness. It was a mistake, maybe, but he was here and she was here and it was possible they could do something with that, although he wasn't sure what, yet.

"Fate, huh?" He asked, because she seemed sure they'd have found each other anyway, anywhere. And he would have said that wasn't true because he hadn't known her before but -- well. Here she was now. Maybe it was just the time for it. No disputing that. "Who're the others? The Avengers?" It always came down to the Avengers, he figured.

He perked up slightly over the idea of tech though, and willingly allowed himself to be lead back in a circle (yeah, nap time soon, since that tired him out) but seemed well awake enough to start fiddling with the phone as soon as he picked it up. Nothing too special here, although the mystery of how it was even running was a good one, and Tony had to squint around, looking for phone lines. Or power at all. Nothing. "Weird," he said, turning it over in his hand and then picking up another one just because -- well. Because he was going to take one apart as soon as he had the time for it, obviously. "Not a great welcome package," he noted, raising a brow at her. "French fries would have been better. But alright. We can work with this. Good looking out, Jan."

"The Avengers," she confirmed with a grin. See, they were on the same page.

This seemed like a good enough start to Jan. Two of the coolest people in the entire universe, reunited, and they had tech in their hands. Maybe not the best kind, but she knew Tony would figure something out.

She'd help out when she could.

"See, only a small example of how I've always got your back." She grinned but immediately groaned at the mention of food again. "Aw, but don't mention french fries. Those sound reeeally good right now." She put a hand over her stomach. "But I don't think we'll find a McDonald's around here."

"Sorry, sorry," he appeased, and he was actually a little bit sorry because french fries really did sound good about now. Plenty of things did. But if Tony was being honest, the water had sort of done him in in terms of efforts today.

"Tell you what," he said after wandering around a bit more. "This is weird, but I really need a nap. So I'm gonna. Do that. In one of those houses. You keep looking around though, and I bet we find something worth seeing eventually." Which was probably true. He just wanted to be able to actually be more energetic to match Jan's energy levels.

Jan was hesitant over letting him go, worried that he might fall asleep and have a hard time waking back up again. She couldn't help but smile at the thought of a sleeping-beauty Tony, but gave him a questioning look.

"How about this. I'll walk you to your room, make sure you don't pass out along the way. That way, I know where you are and make sure you haven't swallowed your tongue or something." Better safe than sorry, but he did look like he needed about twelve hours of sleep. "Hopefully I'll have good news with you wake up!" She was somewhat doubtful of that. Still! Better to stay optimistic, especially since their arrival (reunion?) was so hopeful.

"Maybe beauty rest is just what the doctor ordered!"
